You can keep your socks on

Yesterday was to be relatively routine, I needed to see my respiratory therapist, Lady Diane needed to get her allergy shot and finally stop by the pharmacy to pick up the Lady's meds. We got to the hospital early so we waited until I finally got in to the the therapist and he took my vital signs before starting therapy. My blood pressure was 202/110.
The therapist immediately contacted my Cardio-Pulmonary doc who told me NO therapy and he wanted to see me immediately so I was taken down the hall to see the doc and he took my BP again; now 200/115, he waited for about 10 minutes telling me to think calm thoughts then took my BP again; 200/110, he went down the hall to his office and returned shortly telling me he just had me admitted to the ER so I (and the Lady Diane) were escorted downstairs to the ER where I was taken to an exam room and told to remove my clothing and put on a "gown" but I could keep my socks on. I kept my socks on.
Two techs came in and one told me to remove my gown as he applied a few dozen electrode thingys while telling me to remain calm and relaxed as the other tech was attempting to draw blood and put in an IV.
3 1/2 hours later and after some IV medication my BP was down to 160/98. The nurse came into the room and unplugged all the stuff, I got dressed and we came home to a cup of soup and some hot tea. I was in bed by 10.

@dyslexia,
Dys, I have heard that Fat Tire beer is exceptionally high in sodium. On the other hand, Natural Light has been known to reduce BP. I'm afraid a switch is in order.

What about the hat?

I hope "they" are going to keep an eye on you. (I know Diane will.)

200/115. That's the best you could do? Not really trying, were you?

@dyslexia,
I can understand your high blood pressure if you were as excited about the Obama victory as The Lady Diane when she called me yesterday.

@BumbleBeeBoogie,
no way, while the Lady Diane may be a democrat, I remain a liberal.

@dyslexia,
Antichrist and anarchist, I've thought.

(Thanks for the infos about the socks - but what was about the hat? [Usually, you have to take off your left sock here when the pressure is above 200])

It was really so pathetic. Making the cowboy take of his boots and his Stetson was just going too far.

Good thing he was mostly nekkid or he might have put up a fight.

@dyslexia,
dys- Damn- They sent you home with that kind of pressure???? What kind of follow up are you getting? When Mr. P. had that kind of pressure last month, they kept him in the hospital for a week, testing just about any part that could be tested.

I have a great spygmomanometer:

http://www.omronhealthcare.com/product/detail.asp?p=1117&t=186

They have them in Costco and/or Sams'. It's a good idea to keep a check on your pressure. The kinds of spikes that you are having are stroke bait.

For years, I've been saying that's EXACTLY why they make you wear those gowns. They make you feel so weak and embarrassed that you're likely to remain passive, no matter how infuriating they are. Probably explains why doctors always talk to you with a nurse or other medical attendant standing by...it's two against one. Just in case you throw a punch. (Yeah, yeah, I've heard the bit about legal liability, but I'd be more frightened of a hard right to the jaw.)

Thanks for giving me a good scare, Dys. I'd better go take a blood pressure pill myself now. May I assume they sent you home with a prescription?

@dyslexia,
gheez what kind of amateurs do they have in NM hospitals?
They should have kept you for observation at least 3 days. It doesn't help
to live in the prairie when you're sick.
