News to me.
Palin did a fine job. Her speech was short on substance, it's true, but then the entire GOP convention has been short on substance, so that's no surprise. In any event, Palin's job wasn't to deliver a major policy speech, it was to introduce herself to the voters and to reassure them that she wasn't an airheaded surrogate third wife for McCain or a wild-eyed mountain woman who lived under the bridge to Nowhere, Alaska. In that, I think she succeeded quite admirably. She came across as personable, feisty, and devoted to her ever-increasing family. In fact, on the crucial "who would you want to have a beer with" scale, Palin's acceptance speech may have very easily catapulted her to the top.
Of course, her biggest challenge in this campaign won't be to give a prepared speech (which, I've heard,
she did not even write herself!) to an adoring bunch of Republicans. After the party is over tomorrow, it will be back to the reality-based world, which has not been a terribly friendly environment for the GOP lately.
