@ossobuco,
Yep, the different lengths are deliberate. He's really enjoying the stone work.

This is what you get when somebody who knows what they're doing takes the photos:

@Tai Chi,
This piece is just terrific. Love it. I would have guessed the whole thing was silver, looking at it, just because the inside appears to be a solid piece. And those small circles too, it looks like they were left plain, though I can kind of see a bronze or copper stripe just to the left of the right groove (that's hard to explain for some reason). Anyway. Very nice.

@Tai Chi,
Oh wow!

I already loved the poppy but that's extra-awesome.

@Tai Chi,
Nice. I'm very fond of that poppy. Are the clips actually holding it in place? I would like to hold that in my hands.

Do I hear orders for a production of the poppy piece?

The poppy photo will go on the grad show poster -- grad show is in April -- then the show tours around Ontario for up to a year to various jewelry stores that have volunteered to host it. The College Guy has started his self-directed "contract" work of 400 hours and multiple pieces in order to graduate. There will be a couple more poppies.

@Joeblow,
Joeblow, I think you're referring to the mokume ring(?) The mokume pieces and the laminated pieces are soldered on to a solid sterling band ring (that's the silver you see on the inside).

@Tai Chi,
Yes, the ring. I've got it now I think, thanks. Laminate the metals and then enamel. Way cool.

The College Guy invited the rest of the nerd squad over for dinner last night -- two young women he has "adopted" as the daughters-we-never-had. It sounds like between the hours they've been putting in at the studio and the steady disappearance of student loans they've been living on Kraft Dinner and peanut butter and jam sandwiches. It was fascinating to just sit and listen to them talk about their projects and plans for the future. They are all learning the same techniques but their resulting jewelry is all so uniquely different. It was fun. (Gotta love the young -- they don't think our plans for the future are crazy.)

Here's a recent bolo:

@sozobe,
Hi sozobe. The bolo is magnatite. The buckle is magnatite (black with gold specks), red jasper and tiger iron.

And to give the Canucks a chuckle, my one-of-a-kind custom-made name tag:

A little the worse for wear after it went through the wash.
