I think before Lash gives this any more momentum than it's really worth, it should be re-emphasized that had this been official campaign policy, Obama's past photo ops and rallies would have been devoid of any visible muslims--which they haven't. If he had an anti-muslim strand to his personality, politics or his philosophy then I'm sure after all the campaigning to date, this would have become transparently obvious by now.

That Lash wishes to assert, without qualification and without substantiated evidence that thisin fact official campaign policy, she is simply becoming yet another vile propagandist with the hopes of maintaining the deplorable status quo in American politics.

I don't think he's anti-Muslim at all.
Also, I think the No Muslims Allowed policy was a recent decision.

So okay, having received a couple of pms from cyclo informing me that I'm a dick and that he's tired of me and is going to call me on all my Obama smearing (concern trolling he calls it)... let's encapsulate what we've learned.

!. I asked how many times things like that would have to occur before people began to QUESTION it?

Apparently it's happened enough for :

Freeduck to question it
Thomas to question it
Lash to question it.
Me to question it.
Candidone to question it.
Brand X to question it.
squinney to question it.

Not enough for

edgarblythe to question it.
ebrown to question it.
cyclo to question it.

We've also learned that cyclo apparently thinks he's been given the job of pm ing those he doesn't agree with to tell them they're dicks and tell them what they are supposed to post or not post.

cyclo has learned exactly what his opinion means to me via pm.

I'd say so far my question and at least one other has been answered so.... to quote someone I think we can ALL agree is a 1st. class dick....

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

we've also learned that after receiving a nasty post from someone in response to a nasty post from him.... he reports them for abusive language.

we've learned that cyclo likes to dish it out but can't take it.

Do I think the volunteers had some instructions about Muslims? Yes.

Do I think the instructions came from Obama or high up in his campaign? No.

Do I think it matters enough to hunt out who gave the instructions? Not really.

I agree that Obama's campaign acted incorrectly, but disagree that there is a pattern of doing so on his part - or that their apology was insufficient.

A pattern of what? I agree there isn't a pattern of bigotry or anything like that. I do think there's a pattern of the left hand not knowing what the right hand was doing, and of Obama standing embarrassed as incapable of getting a grip on his own campaign. I don't think this will kill him. But it's a pattern, and it's a stain on his otherwise successful campaign.

I think the implication is that there was a pattern of bigotry, which is what I was responding to.

As for the campaign itself... I think that Soz said it best, when she pointed out that relying upon highly pumped-up volunteers is a double-edged sword.

Yes, but it is a very small stain. And as long as it ain't on any chubby little intern's dress, I'm pretty sure it won't sink him.

'cept for the fact that you have no evidence it was a 'known policy' of the Campaign, Lash. You are making that up.

We have no evidence about a lot of things but it is reasonable to infer from the facts in this case that it was somebody's policy even if it didn't reach as high as the national campaign headquarters. Keeping in mind sozobe's point about dying by the sword of grassroots organizing and autonomy, it still seems reasonable that somebody higher up than the volunteers made a decision and communicated it.

I don't know about that. If a campaign organizer asked a handfull of volunteers to "select a decent cross-section of people to sit behind the stage" and turned them loose, it wouldn't surprise me that a couple might worry about creating a picture that would be used against the candidate. It's clear they weren't against Muslims per se since several were asked to be in the backdrop. What is clear is that the volunteers acted improperly. Was that due to lack of clear guidance or due to abundantly clear guidance? Can't say, but it is an interesting question. We'll know more at the next speech. Old Europe's observations that Obama has appeared with Muslim headscarves in the background before does lend credence to the assumption that Obama does not have a standing, anti-Muslim policy though.

Yes, it is whining. And you're the one that brought an ostensibly private exchange into a public thread.

If you don't like his PM, then ignore it. If it is offensive, then report it. Don't reply with abuse and then try to cover your tracks with a "but he did it first!" defense.
