So, I laid my resignation on the desk. The boss suggested I may want to reconsider the part time job in October, when the weather changes. Not wishing to burn any bridges, I left the option open. After today, I don't even want to finish the two weeks I have left. But, I will.

This is a smart move move, Edgar.

Should you decide to take something at Lowe's, Home Depot, etc, there's the matter of references to consider.

Keeping your previous employer "sweet" to you would not hurt in this matter.

Keep us posted. I am reading this every day.

Ah, they got me today. The manager told how she and the owner and many other people could not imagine that place without me around. She had a tear or two in her eyes. I agreed to return after a month. My hours would be as flexible as I want, working anywhere from two hours up, my personal choice.

Wow, what a difference a day makes!

So, you are, as of now, taking a month's "break" (holidays?)?

Hmmm, this is a very interesting option that they have given you. Hard to resist, I can see. It's too bad that they couldn't have talked to you about it before you had advised that you wanted to leave.

This might be an excellent option until at least your pension money starts to roll in. Then, you can review your situation there and see if it really works for you.

You still could leave at that time. I'm pleased that this avenue has opened up for you.

Actually, reyn, they did want me part time before this. I was the one that nixed it. But, it's the option that makes the most sense, as of now.

Well, damn. Make sure you keep it part time. Don't knock yourself out for the job.

and I just love the word, pillock!

It has such a feel to it! I've tried to revive it here a bit! I'm known (a little) for referring to people as "great, hairy, pillocks!"

Yes , but it must be carefully doled out. It is a language spice that, like cumin in food, can add to ,or ruin. I used it once this year to describe cj and wont be allowed to use it for another year, otherwise it begins sounding trite.

Its good that the ENglish and Aussies have preserved the everyday use of such words. Here in US, we are constantly reinventing our language that Im able to read books and , without knowing anything about the publication, can pick out the date of writing from the language . This is a horrible waste of good words. We just let em fester and die because we are too busy inventing another word that fits an occasion of today.

Like the wword "farrago", Its quite coomonly used in UK colloquial talk. In the US, weve got so many other ways of describing the same thing that we avoid its use entirely and only muse at how we hear it in "Monty Python" or "Ricky Gervais" sketches.

Id like to drag up some of the old classical colloquial terms such as pillock and bring them back into more common use.

Yes, I used pillock in the title, but, so as not to beat it in the ground, have avoided its use thereafter.

You nixed it? If you don't mind me asking, why? Especially if you could virtually make your own hours.

I had to test them, to see if they really needed me, or were just being kind. If you know the song about Pancho and Lefty, you might see what I mean.

Quote:

Living on the road my friend
Was gonna keep you free and clean
Now you wear your skin like iron
Your breath's as hard as kerosene
You weren't your mama's only boy
But her favorite one it seems
She began to cry when you said goodbye
And sank into your dreams

Pancho was a bandit boys
His horse was fast as polished steel
Wore his gun outside his pants
For all the honest world to feel
Pancho met his match you know
On the deserts down in Mexico
Nobody heard his dying words
That's the way it goes

All the federales say
They could have had him any day
They only let him hang around
Out of kindness I suppose

Lefty he can't sing the blues
All night long like he used to
The dust that Pancho bit down south
Ended up in Lefty's mouth
The day they laid poor Pancho low
Lefty split for Ohio
Where he got the bread to go
There ain't nobody knows

All the federales say
They could have had him any day
They only let him slip away
Out of kindness I suppose

The poets tell how Pancho fell
Lefty's livin' in a cheap hotel
The desert's quiet and Cleveland's cold
So the story ends we're told
Pancho needs your prayers it's true,
But save a few for Lefty too
He just did what he had to do
Now he's growing old

A few gray federales say
They could have had him any day
They only let him go so wrong
Out of kindness I suppose
