Brothers (Sisters) Unite. It's time to get out of the sun. I therefore resign, effective two weeks hence. Ain't no danger the door's going to slap my ass on the way out. "Ain't you going to need money?" I needed money when I hired on. Don't see the problem got resolved. Aidios, and river dirtchy.

Do I understand correct: You quit your full time (soon to be part time) job? If so, what happened? Enquiring minds want to know!

I just spent the entire day in the heat, rushing to make some impossible deadlines. At the same time, an apartment had a leak that got the next apartment wet. Fixed a disconnected pipe. Then had to lift up the sheet vinyl floor. It's a loose sheet, so fimsy it tears if you slide an appliance over it. Cleaned up the water that got under the flooring. Dried everything with mops towels and a fan. Buttoned it all up. Soon discovered, after drying the floor and replacing the vinyl, it was a double leak. The upstairs hot water tank was periodically spewing water from the pop up. It was getting out of the drain line. It was not that hard to replace the pop up, or fix the line, but i had to take up the vinyl again, and get all the water out. Almost had to go home from too much heat, about two PM.

Time to hang it up.

Ouch! what a horrible day, indeed!

I seem to recall your official retirement wasn't until July? If you resign in 2 weeks, will this mess this up?

I guess you may go back to looking at Home Depot for post-retirement income?

I will spend the next weeks job hunting. I've already completed the enrollment for Social Security and Medicare. Medicare kicked in, but SS begins July 17.

I just don't see me beating my brains out like that into late September, before the weather taditionally becomes bearable again.

why are you job hunting and retiring at the same time? is there something I missed?
Houston can be a bitch in July, Ill agree. The air gets so hot and humid that you seem to be surrounded by this dense mat of water vapor that cuts out all sound.

Ill tell ya, you can get some really great deals on RV's now so you can drive North for the hot time and then drive south again when it passes over. You use the RV not to travel around , but to move your residence , then you wait out the hot weather and dont hang around too long where it can get cold.

Ive seen some really nifty rigs going really chep, and a used rig just a few yers old can be had for a relative song these days.

Not that Im trying to convince a fellow pillock, maybe Im just too dum not to see the drawbacks of the "semi-nomadic life"

I feel bad. And I hate them! "Ain't ya gonna need the money?" Twits.

Hey Edgar.....

Oooooh.... Sad

not sure what to say... except GOOD FOR YOU (I think!) If you reckon it's time.... then it's time - so GOOD FOR YOU!

You know, I haven't heard anyone outside the UK use the expression "pillock" for the longest time - it was one of the "in" words when I was a kid... and still is.

You 'aint a pillock - they are!

PILLOCKS PILLOCK PILLOCKS! All of 'em!

Enjoy retirement and very best wishes to you hun.

For those who don't know my situation: I don't have enough money to live well, unless I get some kind of other job. But, I intend looking for something that will keep me out of the sun, and won't run my legs off like I was a 20 yr old boy.

Other than the price of gas, I like the RV nomad idea.

You could stay "employed" the rest of your life just having a route to fix stuff for A2Ker's across the US. I could have some stuff for ya to do come October when it cools off over here.

The one thing I finally learned is that if you are doing what you are supposed to be doing (according to yourself) it will all work out.

Thanks, wabbit. I intend having a more relaxed schedule. Perhaps I can get my book written, then.

Truthfully, the time came last summer, but I failed to acknowledge it.

I love the travel idea. Wish it could work that way. I do want to plan a (last?) trip to California this year.

Edgar, does your local Home Depot have air conditioning?

I can sympathize with the working outside routine. I've done that for most of my life and got real sick of it.

I'm still looking for "something", but haven't found what I want. I've given up for the next while, because I need to complete some projects around the home, but will carry on probably again in September. It will definitely be "something" indoors!

It's cool in Lowes and Home Depot. In Houston, if it ain't air conditioned, it won't have customers.
