so be it, but to think that his race is not the reason his "change" meme resonants with people who also see the same political attitude in white candidates who they don't support one can only point to his race as the instrument of change.

you might not know it, but there are a lot of black folk who do not like the fact that obama has a white mother

Nor does Clinton have any positions different from Biden or Richardson. She tried to run as a right leaning candidate, but Edwards scotched that. Perhaps instead of color, it's charisma. Bill Clinton didn't come out of nowhere to win due to his skin color. With all of Clinton's overwhelming assets going into this campaign, it is very simplistic to say "well he's black and we all know that is a big political plus in this country." Is it so unbelievable that the combination of his charisma and Clinton's awful response to it is the reason we sit where we are today? To say that a white man couldn't have sold a "change" campaign denies all the men that did it.

You should spend more on education if that's true.

why? i'm a white male, it does not stem from my behavoir towards blacks that some of them exhibit racism towards white people, and we don't live a world called Farnham's Freehold, and considering how blacks are still treated in america i can understand their attitude, but to do more than treating every person with respect is mere condesention and insult.

are you f#$%ucking insane? edwards was not running as a right leaning candidate, if you think that his brand of economic populism invoked corporatism, conservatism and racism you are too frigging stupid to respond to further.

you just presented the attitude of typical obamaniacs where you think the guy's $hit doesn't stink and weave all sorts of bull$hit excuses for the man and distortions of reality whenever his actions don't jive with liberal exceptations

Perhaps instead of color, it's charisma.

it is not chasima, is it the deafness of the audience who hear only what they want to hear and disregard the internal inconsistancies in his rhetoric.

Trying to sound authentically African-American during a speech memorializing the forty-second anniversary of the 1965 Voting Rights March at the Pettis Bridge in Selma, Obama claimed that his black (Kenyan) father and white (Kansan) mother married and conceived the future Barockstar because of the great Civil Rights struggles fought in Selma and Birmingham, Alabama… (Obama 2007).

Wow. Too bad Barack Obama Jr. was born in 1961, two years before the famous campaign to desegregate Birmingham, three years before the Civil Rights Act, and four years before the famous Selma march!

I thought he was the second coming, based on what many of his supporters are saying.

Surely they all cant be wrong, can they?

hey mm, just returned on site.

that is a great pix of you!

Thanx, that pic was taken when I got promoted to Lt on the fire dept.

I am not a fan of Obama, but I do prefer him over Hillary.
But to be honest I think thats because of all the baggage she brings from her husband.

kuvasz, most of those links don't work -- not sure what to make of that. I did manage to get the link to the Harper's article and found it pretty complimentary of him. I'm not sure what you meant that to be a reference to. Also, the link to ProgressivePunch is for a representative from Hawaii and not Obama. His is here. He scores an 88, but gets a 100 on the subcategory of corporate subsidies, scoring 1st out of 98. So I'm curious what makes you say he's a corporatist.

That site is very informative, though, so thanks for linking.

I assume the red rant is yours. My intent was that Edwards ran hard left and that forced Clinton to turn left as well. I thought Edwards' positions were sufficiently obvious that I didn't need to spell that out.

That is what charisma does. It gets people to accept on an emotional level what they might not otherwise consider. Your point is that there is a racial component to that. My point is that there is a long history of charismatic leaders doing what Obama has done. Your claim that being black drives all of this doesn't hold water.

The past is not relevant? I don't see how that makes sense, even as smart as I am. I'm comparing the rise of a charismatic leader and looking to Clinton and JFK as parallels not in experience or background, but in charisma and its effect on the voters.

I don't have any problem with your dislike of Obama or his policies. I take issue with your statement that he wouldn't be where he is if he wasn't black. I think when Ferraro made that statement about Jackson, she might have been right. His policies were out of the mainstream and he had little appeal outside of the South. Obama's campaign has been completely different. He has main stream appeal that has nothing to do with race. Nothing you have posted makes that argument. Do you continue to support it?

Obviously.

Time Magazine chose it as one of the top 100 TV shows of all time.

Quote:
With so much TV, from reality shows to bad movies, the best entertainment is what happens in your living room. This basic-cable masterpiece raised talking back to the TV into an art form, as a human and his robot buddies were consigned to live on a satellite, watching lousy movies against their will. The team's rapid-fire references ranged from the scatological to the Biblical ("Give us Barabbas!" they shout over a crowd scene in Attack of the Giant Leeches). With other meta-TV shows like E!'s Talk Soup, MST3K was an example of what culture critic Steven Johnson called "information filters," or media about other media; it filled the snarky role of blogs before blogs existed. From the vantage of MST3K's lonely Satellite of Love, pop culture was hell, and heaven too.

Gotcha. Remind me to never set the DVR to record this.

The show has been off the air for years and anyone who is not aware of this and this pop culture phenomenon that is/was MST3K is simply ignorant and hopelessly uninformed. I wouldn't brag about it if I were you.

The Partridge Family was a pop culture phenonemon and has been off the air for years... as was Andy Griffith and Sing Along With Mitch.... those who don't know of these shows first hand have somehow muddled through, led successful lives and contributed to their communities without being ridiculed.

Unlike our resident culture expert, they are probably also ignorant of the Chicago Hot Plate, felching and snoballing. More's the pity for these poor ignorant souls.

I shall steer them away from A2K for the sake of their fragile self esteem.
