The Star Bucks are batting a thousand already. What to do, what to do..
My 1st SP was doing so well but got into a jam in the 8th. Threw a bad pitch for a grand slam. Out went the Win, CG, and a fine ERA.
I had (until a few minutes ago) Oliver Perez on my team.
Sometimes he's Oliver Jeckyll and pitches delightfully, sometimes he's Oliver Hyde. But today he was just Frankenstein. 6 earned runs, one measly out.
Ouch!
That worked out for Bengie Molina...
(That's the highest ERA I've seen in my short term fantasy baseball life, for however short a length of time.)
An ERA of 162.00? That is, like, totally awesome, dude.
My D.L. R.P Joel Zumaya is playing for Detroits minors this week. I'm awaiting his return.
Speaking of DL's. I have noticed that some of yall have more players than I have, but with a couple of them on DL I can see the logic of doing that but have not been able to figure out how to pick up and "warehouse" these potentially good players. The messages I get from Yahoo is "Roster is full."
Tell you the secret.
(You can't do this is both DL slots are occupied)
1. You drop Oliver Perez
2. You pick Chris Carpenter (who is on DL) as a replacement
3. You put Chris Carpenter on DL, a space is cleared in your roster
4. You pick Jorge Campillo.
Ta dah!
Yeh, when my DL Barnes gets activated I'll have to ditch someone to fit him in the roster....
Thank you fbaezer. I skipped step #3.
Nuts, I just let go Iwamura, whom I'd picked up yesterday as part of a 'test drive' situation re 1st, 2nd, 3rd base. But who needs 5 2nd basemen? So I let him go to get myself another RP.
Four minutes later, he opens with a home run.
Where's the strychnine...
What is a pitching stat called a "hold?" My RP (Downs for Toronto) came in in the 7th with his team up something like 7-6. He left after 1.2 innings at which time Toronto was up 8-6. The guy who relieved him finished the game which Toronto lost 8-9. Downs got credit for a "Hold."
A pitcher gets a Hold when he enters the game in a save situation and, when he leaves the game, his team is still on the lead.
Notice that it has to be "a save situation": less outs left on the game than runs ahead by his team.
In your case, Downs held the starter's win, but the closer blew it (so Ryan gets a "blown save"). It wasn't Downs fault that the following pitcher failed. The Hold holds.
Thank you, fbaezer, for the explanation. I will have to go back and look at the actual stats to fully understand what you are telling me.

It's even sadder when you think, "Damn, that's gonna hurt my fantasy team."
Ken Griffey Jr has been a real drag on the 'Necks but I feel honor bound as a Virginia gentleman to have him on a team in our league when he hits his 600th HR. He has been stuck on 599 for forever.
pffft
why couldn't I get home sooner and move Vernon Wells off the DL.
I love Vernon. I'm glad he had a great game, but <sob> why not on my watch?
It was delightful to play, and lose, against osso, TUFBDQ.
TUFBDQ: The Ultimate Fantasy Baseball Drama Queen.
That's me!
I had fun calling you names..

Dusty Baker has managed the last three players to achieve the milestone: Bonds in San Francisco, Sosa in Chicago and now Griffey...
