I looked at the waivers stats and see the dogeared southpaws with two. I haven't tried to put anyone on waivers yet. So, who are the 2 and how do I find that out and get them back, g.forbid they be my best pitchers.

No, that number doesn't signify the number of players you have placed on waivers. It is your ranking for plucking players from the waiver wire. Since I was the last team to pull someone from waivers, my waiver ranking is now 12. That means every team besides me will get a chance to pick up a given player from waivers, before me.

Thus, if you and I both put a request to pick up Evan Longoria tonight, you will get him and I will not ... because your waiver ranking is higher than mine. And if you get Longoria from waivers, your waiver ranking would then be 12, and mine would move up to 11 -- meaning I would be ranked higher than you, but not higher than anyone else.

Right now, only one team -- Cosmik Debris -- has a higher waiver ranking than you. (And if you're interested, the reason he has a higher waiver ranking is because your first draft selection was before him.)

Oh, thanks. Sorry for the repeated 'doh' moments. I'm about to give up from my own stupidity. I'll carry on in the face of adversity yet again.

I looked at your line up, osso, and also at JPB's for this coming Tues, Wed and then Sunday. You own Joe Blanton (Oak-SP) and he is in your lineup. So if he pitches on Tues or Wed in Japan, you will be in the game. On Sunday 3/30, your guy John Smoltz (Atl-SP) might get the nod. You have him as a P rather then a SP. That matters not. He will play for you if he pitches. You would not get his points if you had him on your bench.
JPB is also set through Sunday. No action required.

I looked at Jespah's Boston Puppies. If you click on her team (which should probably be called the Boston Red Sox) you will note that one of her SP's (Tim Wakefield) is on her bench. She will have to move him into either a SP or P position if she thinks he will play and if she thinks he will perform well.

We have mentioned before that, once we get past the first week, you will be able to set your lineups in one sitting for the following week and then sit back and watch the results.

Thanks, Johnboy.

I had moved two pitchers from the bench so far, and was worried I somehow put those two on waivers by some fumblefingered move.

I need to pick up some players and drop some, today sometime.

He's not benched; I only have 1 bench position for pitchers.

PS If you see a caret (^) next to a starting pitcher's name, it means they're starting that day, so put him in either an SP or a P slot. If you have more starting pitchers than SP and P slots combined, you'll have to do some choosing. That doesn't happen often but it's not impossible.

He was on your bench, Jespah, when I wrote that. In any event I was attempting to illustrate for newbies how they might have to adjust their lineups.
12 hours plus a few minutes until the start of the season!

The Dogeared Southpaws have Joe Blanton (OAK) starting tomorrow morning. The Boston Puppies have Daisuke Matsuzaka (BOS) on the mound.

I could swear I took Blanton off the bench, um, maybe Saturday.

I suppose I'm going to have to go look. Maybe I didn't save in some way.

Listen, folks, I'm a weird component here. I knew about Blanton a long time ago but not what the waiver chart meant. I contemplate doing nothing ever and seeing how it goes. I'm here to learn by watching for next year when you should all watch your teams' asses. Which brings up, Pin the Tail on the Donkey? Anyone but me ever played that?

I demanded help re dropping and adding and then there it is at the top of a screen that I hadn't clicked on, at least that I noticed.... Drop.... Add.

Is this really like marriage?

Yes, precisely.

And like marriage there is a right and wrong way to dissolve the partnership...

Add/drop players is not that way...

So, stone eyes (what is the black mexican stone, onyx?), what is the right way to toss a player and get a new one?

I don't mind help on the thread for clarification.. I don't want behind scenes do this and thats. I'm a righteous manager, as the paws will rule, if not just this year, and I plan to do it right. I spent time watching Wooden, y'know. Yes, yes, another game.

I don't listen to anyone's advice other than my own when I know what I'm doing and researching. If I'm a rampant fool in the meantime, I don't care.

I have added my first Designated Jamoke -- Travis Buck of the Oakland
A's. I'll probably keep him for the next couple of games, get what I can,
and then drop him.

Soooooo...

I have posted in wait for two people who are on waivers. One with a date of the 26th, and one the 28th.

Let's say that at the present minute, my main interest is in the guy on the 28th. Let's say I set that at #1 priority.

What does that really mean, that nothing happens on the 26th? (I'm in a #2 waiver spot - thank you for explaining that, Tico - so I presume if I picked the guy on the 26th as #1 priority that I'd have a reasonable chance of getting him, and then I'd be #12 on the waiver list for the guy on the 28th.

But setting my priority for the later date confuses me...

I guess I surmise that if I leave the guy on the 28th as my #1 priority, that I would then be in a #2 waiver position for him, but #12 for the guy on the 26th.... eh?
