So the Tuesday game is the first to pay attention to? OK.
What happened to the season starting on the 24th? Ah, so, it's still the 24th here, yes.
What's ET? Boston time? Time in Tokyo?

So my roster has to be set on the 24th?

Tues, 3/25, 6 am ET: Boston vs Oakland in Japan.
Wed, 3/26, 6 am ET: Boston vs Oakland in Japan.
Sun, 3/30, 8 pm ET: Atlanta @ Washington
Mon, 3/31: Evereyone else

I will now advance slowly toward the concept of dropping a player and picking a new one any time. Going to look at the yahoo site one more time to see if it tells how to do that, other than putting a player on waiver and waiting for someone to want the player, or somehow trading (an advanced idea for me at this time).

Oh, that's perfectly clear. Could you explain what you just said? I have the number of people on my roster the good baseball lords gave me. HOW do I get rid of one or more, aside from putting them on waivers and waiting?

If you want a particular player, click on the "+" under the "Action" column to the right of the player's name. If you have the maximum number of players on your roster at the time you do that, Yahoo will ask you to select the player you want to drop. Select that player to drop, and confirm your action with yahoo.

Then, the player you dropped will go to the waiver list for a couple of days, after which time they will move off waivers and be regular free agents.

The season does not start on the 24th, at least I don't think it does -- I or whoever else said that, probably misspoke.

You only need to care about the 25th and 26th if you have any players on either Boston or Oakland. Right now your only applicable player is Pitcher Joe Blanton (Oakland). Then you have nothing to worry about until 3/30 which is an Atlanta game (you have Pitcher John Smoltz). Even then you only care if either of these gentlemen is actually starting.

The ET stands for Eastern Time. And yes, those games are being played at 6 AM our time. Shocked But that's only 'cause that's a reasonable time in Tokyo.

Also found a good description of them in a post jes made a couple weeks ago

The areas where you are scored (it's a head to head league and we round-robin it, so one week you play me, another week you play RJB, etc. Once you've played everyone, it cycles through again. I think we get 3 or 4 cycles by the time the season ends):

Batting: Runs (R), Doubles (2B), Home Runs (HR), Runs Batted In (RBI), Stolen Bases (SB), Caught Stealing (CS -- this is a negative stat; you want it to be low), Bases on Balls (BB -- also called walks), Strikeouts (K -- another negative stat), Average (AVG)

Pitching: Innings Pitched (IP), Wins (W), Complete Games (CG), Shutouts (SHO), Saves (SV), Strikeouts (K -- here, it's a positive stat), Holds (HLD -- or, did the middle reliever hold the lead?), Earned Run Average (ERA -- a negative stat), Walks plus hits per inning pitched (WHIP -- another negative stat. If Ks are low and ERA is high, WHIP is also going to be higher), Blown Saves (BSV -- if there is no hold, a blown save usually goes with that. Of course this is a negative stat).

next dumb question that I can probably answer myself if I dig around for a bit...

My roster has 6 starting pitchers. Can I have more than one SP per day? For instance, if Hughes starts for the Yanks and Harden starts for Oakland on the same day, do I have 2 SPs that day or do I have to designate one of them up-front? I can understand having 2 catchers in play, but what about SPs?

You can have up to five.
Five?
Five.

You have two slots designated "SP". These require a player
designated "SP". You have three slots designated "P". These require a
player designated "SP" or "RP".

Also known as the "Designated Jamoke".

I spent sometime just rotating players through my lineup based on who
was hot, who was not, and what player did Rockhead just drop that he
might regret later.

I think I'm hung up on the concept of fielding a 'team' each day. I'm down to one SS so there will be days that I don't field a SS and days that I field multiple SPs. Strange kinda 'team'.

Yep.

It's good to find a decent player who can be plugged into various slots at
need.

Thank you, Jes. I saw someone say the twenty fourth, but also seem to remember I saw it online somewhere.
I had noticed about Blanton starting, but not gotten further.

All right, all of you can start worrying now. After breakfast, er, brunch, I'm going to the grocery store and home depot and then I'm going to come back here and get serious about my team (that's on the beam, that's really hep with jive...)

Yes it is a strange kind of team. Each of us has a roster of "hitters" and "pitchers." I suspect that JPinMilw tried to set the league up such that each of those two is of equal weight. So If I decide to make my team as strong as it can be in pitching, I will be competitive with the team that is going for hitting.
And then within those two, he further refined it by choosing the sub-categories we get points in. I believe it was Tico who noted that this year JP has tweaked the categories to give, for example, more importance to what RP's do vs Sp's. Pretty fascinating stuff.

Yes, you did drop a marginal SS and got a good pitcher. If you look at your roster you will note that your remaining SS had a large number of At Bats last year. He probably played most every day. You get hurt a bit on the days his team is idle, but not significantly. And if you happen to have another player qualified to play SS, you can shuffle your lineup.

Once we get started you will be able to pretty much set your lineup for the week. This first week is kind of strange, but then we establish more of a rhythm.

Finally, JPB, a category I like is Stolen Bases (SB). There is a player who can get on base, steal and, if his teammates produce, can score a run. His stats in Walks or Batting Average, SB's and Runs get a nice bounce.
Your likely starting lineup has guys who scored a combined 188 SB's last year. My guys had 189. The tradeoff is that these guys tend not to hit homers (HR) or get a lot of runs batted in (RBI).
