I really don't think Ludwig and his dietary requirement are relevant to Iraq's WMD... ON THE OTHER HAND ham and eggs are easily converted into pretty lethal gas.

Polish Troops Find New French Missiles in Iraq
Fri October 3, 2003 03:54 PM ET
By Pawel Kozlowski
WARSAW (Reuters) - Polish troops in Iraq have found four French-built advanced anti-aircraft missiles which were built this year, a Polish Defense Ministry spokesman told Reuters Friday.

France strongly denied having sold any such missiles to Iraq for nearly two decades, and said it was impossible that its newest missiles should turn up in Iraq.

Current-Issue Rolands are not a new issue: See THIS for just one earlier mention, among others, on this website.

Brand X, Would like to have that claim confirmed about French missiles in Iraq. That is interesting only if true.

The story may be true. Whether France had anything to do with it is another matter.

US manufactured weapons routinely fall into the hands of our enemies.

As Cdk observes, there is no proof the munitions were provided directly to Iraq by the French Government

True, the article doesn't confirm a direct sale from France. I suppose it is under investigation like so much is.

Governments in general are good at "Plausible Deniability" ... hell, they invented it. That's what diplomacy is all about.

Frankly I think the notion that France would supply Iraq with arms in 2003 intentionally is a bit far-fetched.

Despite France's objections to the war they would have nothing to gain by supplying a few missles to Iraq (nobody would argue that it would make a difference in the war) and much to lose.

There is no reason not to suppose proscribed munitions found their way into Iraq via otherwise legitimate trading partners of the producing nations. That's what smuggling is all about. The Iraqis may not have invented that, but they've been damned good at it.

And if they did, it isn't going to change anyone's opinion of France, those opinions are already as polarized, and most in concrete, as the opinions of the war itself.

We can speculate all day long, but the fact that they found missiles made in France proves nothing. It's the underlying facts that count; even then, there might be some acceptable reasons for them.

There is no acceptable reason for Iraq to have been in possession of proscribed munitions. That's what the war was all about. The discovery of the Rolands also illustrates nicely that much well may remain to be discovered. There are yet more questions than answers.

Yeah, Billw, finding fault with finding French munitions in Iraq while ignoring finding of American munitions is sort of, well, you know.......
