Brand X, First of all WELCOME to A2K. We are all aware what war does. The question is, was this war justified? Many of us believe this administration lied to the world for their justification for this war. Doesn't that count?

The "this is war, suck it up" arguement is fallacious in the extreme, although convenient from the viewpoint of one watching the whole thing on TV . As for your comments about the lack of Iraqi civilian casualties, I have to wonder where you get your news?

Thanks for the welcome!

I would say that particular comment was a fact, what is war to you, rides on a carousel and popcorn? That's another example of your skewed thinking.

I watched on TV yes, and read many sources of news, were you there, or are you simply using knowledge from a news source also, if so can you provide me with a reputable link to one stating casualty numbers and Iraqi protest relating to it?

Thanks

"just so we can show the world how big our penis is"

Its not as simple as that Bob, its a question of America flexing her muscles, not her genitalia.

Well, it isn't too hard, really. Have you heard of the BBC, the London Times, Le Monde, Die Welt, SuddeutscheZeitung, the Jordan Times, al-Jazeera, the Arab News, the Washington Post, the Washington Times, Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Denver Post, Rocky Mountain News, Baltimore Sun, New York Times, LA Times, Boston Globe,etc...?
There is also a website, iraq body count.

The major American media especially FOX has noticably refrained from giving a total body count at least on a regular basis. Wouldn't want that to be etched on our petty little minds, now would we?

Speaking of big penises, a wit (actually the famous Jeremy Glick of 9/11 fame) described O'Reilly as a "blur below the waist." Something tells me that's a phrase which has been around, but that's the first time I've heard it and I think it's splendid!!

Thanks!

I'm sure the pretense of the war has very much been discussed here, forgive me for not reading every word on 17 pages.

My view is, there seems to be a lot of simplifying of the beginnings, and way too much 20/20 hindsight. It seems also that everyone has a crystal ball now to be used to tear down what has happened to this point and to deny some truths about somethings that happened before this all began.

One of the final 'reasons' or sentences involved in our decision to go to Iraq was of course WMD's, based on a falsely doctored British dossier, that was a lie. Our lie? That is yet to be proved that Bush or the congress, many members of which are the biggest complainers of the situation now yet gave approval without a so called 'exit', knew that British intell was tainted.

The previous administration reduced military employees by over 200,000, in effect dismantled much of the CIA, so we had to depend on intell other than our own. Also turned down three chances to apprehend Bin Laden who finally saw that we were wide open for attack and probably wouldn't retaliate, as proved by the previous admin. So it brings us to now, trying to catch up and be realistic about a cruel world around us. At some point you've got to stand your ground.

A terroist network of our enemy and enemy of democracy built a network which was made stronger and stronger funded by middle east countries like Iraq, which makes it a connection, and the fact that every thug in the area is coming in to fight us and run us out is connection enough for me.

I feel Saddam created his own situation by being defiant all those years, he could have avoided it all, but hey, what do crazy murdering freaks do? I don't care if we ever find WMD's, we found mass graves of kurds that he he used them on in the past, proof enough for me he would do it again. Why didn't he just open all the palaces, quit hassling the inspectors and be more open to proving he didn't have anything? Who knows.

The Iraq UN building being bombed is another connection to me, the whole region is contaminated with enemies coming across boarders who don't care who they kill, why would they all come to Iraq's rescue if there weren't a connectiion?

Also, no war has been planned and carried out exactly to the original strategy, things have to be adjusted along the way, Many unforseen events occurred after the Iraq war started that NO ONE could have known before hand.

Now, I'm not going to blame everything on the British or previous administrations, everyone has to answer for things they do, Bush is a terrible communicator, not a good thing.

Also some of his initiated programs need a lot of attention, like Homeland Security, which ABC NEWS just snuck uranium into country right under their nose.

All of this sounds like an excuse, not a rationale, for an invasion.

And as for enemies coming across borders, BrandX, who is responsible for those borders if not the US? Why the heck are we allowing this infiltration to occur? Not enough troops? Okay, then, didn't we think it through? Aren't we willing to plan, to take responsibility?

Or was this mess intended?

Come on. The whole thing is a disaster and a deep embarrassment for thoughtful, decent Americans.

Thoughtful, decent Americans will be swiftly interened, "Mr" ( Wink ) Tatrtarin, as the first act when Bush and Crisco Boy's latest adenda to PATRIOT are passed.

So the war was the result of faulty British intelligence? Very Happy

Today the Intelligence and Security Committee of the House of Commons reported the Sept. 02 document was not "sexed-up".

Bush and friends had plans to invade Iraq when he was still govenor of Texas.
