Dys has no sense of humor and I am rarely polite - and if so never deliberately ! Mame talks funny and is stubborn in the extreme ('tho occasionally sweet). I had a new knee installed in late March, but otherwise would have made the Albuquerque gathering, if for no other reason than to see if I am better looking than Dys. (Actually it was Diane - the auora of an escaped nun is truly irresistable.)

Great photographs !

That was one of the most fun evenings I've had in a long, long time. I loved bantering and kibbutzing with you, Dys.

Hornswoggling cricker-crucker.

We do not know the origin of hornswoggle. We do know that it belongs to a group of "fancified" words that were particularly popular in the American West in the 19th century. Hornswoggle is one of the earliest, first appearing around 1829. It is possible that these words were invented to poke fun at the more "sophisticated" East. Some other words of this ilk are absquatulate, also first appearing in the 1820s, skedaddle, first attested in 1861 in Missouri, and discombobulate, first recorded in 1916.

Having met georgeob1 personally, I can tell you, dys, you'd enjoy
talking to him tremendously. He's quite witty and such a gentle soul,
if only his political outlook wasn't so darn wrong. Laughing

This may be true, however, i have read in more than one source that on the night before the battle of Hannah's Cowpens (usually referred to simply as Cowpens) Daniel Morgan went around to the camps of the Carolina militiamen and told them: "Just give me two good fires, boys, then you can skedaddle." (The militia were notoriously unreliable in the face of regulars, and would often run--Morgan was attempting to exploit and control the characteristic, and he succeeded.)

The battle of Hannah's Cowpens took place on January 17, 1781.

I cannot vouch for the accuracy of the claim.

Yeah, I'm imagining me and bernie along with GeorgeO, Okie and foxfyre sitting around the patio on some summer eve (temp of 93) and Thomas as the moderator. Did I ever tell you I'm sometimes cranky?

That's true . . . i had personal business to take care of in New York, and what with the city being held by the Lobsterbacks, and all, it was quite a busy week . . .

Dys, if that group, plus Set, ever got together, you have to invite me.

(I'd also like to see Mathos and Spendius go at it when I get over there! Free entertainment.) Laughing

That's not exactly fair. You should at least throw him Finn or Tico if you're going have a battle royal.

Oh, and for the record, I never really cared for Dys or Georgeob1 much.

Great pictures Shewolf!

Oh, cool, she's back in the habit. I always loved the habit.

It's always dangerous to make any assertion of fact with Setanta lurking about, though in this case I think he is correct about Daniel Morgan's words at Cowpens.

Don't be fooled by that "I cannot vouch for ...." stuff. Set probably had ample refereence data & was just waiting to pounce on someone he felt like getting ....

I would never accept Thomas as moderator. He looks too peaceful and his even, placid manner gives him unfair advantage in such situations. Besides the SOB would probably side with Bernie (Blatham), just for the spectacle. Tico.. I would accept. Occam Bill likes to pull my chain -- he will burn in hell for that. In all of this, however, it is the women who end up defining us. I have now, for the first time in my life, been referred to as "a gentle soul" by Calamity. damn ! There is nothing left for me!
