Is that the one with the cafe you mentioned, Dys? It sure is convenient....

Off to look at that and check out some other places in case some well-walletted folks of extraordinary discernment show up...

I also checked out some Santa Fe motels and b & bs earlier this year, and with luck saved the ones that interested me (lowish money, some possible charm) - will add those links for any who would like to stay overnight in Santa Fe. Even I would like to stay overnight in Santa Fe, never have done that.

Re: Santa Fe, we stayed at the Sage Inn

Sage Inn

and quite liked it. The staff was friendly and helpful. It's walking distance to downtown -- if you like to walk.

Would not recommend the Econolodge in Albuquerque as it was somewhat grubby. (Can't blame anyone but ourselves as it was not on osso's recommended list. It was however within easy walking distance of the Old Town.)

Sage Inn, I think that was on my Santa Fe list...

On my ABQ list, I can't testify to any of them. Just gut calls....

The Best Western looks fine to me. Folks should be aware though that the listed rates are before the 20%-sock-it-to-the-tourists-tax.
If that is the part of town where most of us end up in, perhaps someone who knows the lay of the land could list ("list" being totally different from "recommend") other places in the same area.
A moveable feast with one night in Santa Fe? That is an intriguing idea worth exploring. I have never been to NM (except as a lad hitching to CA).
The Sage Inn lists among its amenities "curved curtain rods." What the hell are curved curtain rods and why should I care?

Laughing If I remember correctly they have curved SHOWER curtain rods. They curve out from the bathtub meaning you never get that horrible curtain-wants-to-stick-to-you thing happening while you shower (while wondering how long since it's been laundered and who else it might have stuck to lately).

You have gotten Gus very excited about joining us. He won't be staying at the Sage Inn, though.

I'll attend to this in a few minutes (or an hour), rjb. Will have to figure out how to map stuff, re what I already posted, and I may find more in the area (and the odd one or two out of it, wondering if Corrales has a lodge of some sort, Corrales is cool.) Back in a bit.

There really isn't much on this side of town, some old 50'ish motels along the old Rte 66 and some newer name brand tourist motels (Ramada. HoJo, etc) out on the interstate going west. The Best Western I cited above is near to (3 blocks) Olde Town for dining/shopping etc. On the other side of town are the Hilton etc none of which are actually convenient to much of anything. When we know how many and who are coming we can make better plans about meeting up (burgers on the patio?) side trips to Santa Fe or Sandia etc. No one has yet requested out guest room so it remains open.

I just looked up stuff for an hour and am not done yet. (break time). What may be wrong for some with the Best Western is all rooms are no smoking... (or at least that is what I found.)

OK, am tiring so I'm going to put down what I have so far -

Regular hotels -

Best Western, see above. Very convenient, what with being right off on I-40 and Rio Grande. Seems to be no smoking in rooms.

Radisson - rates don't look bad, they do have smoking rooms, shuttle, free transportation within 5 miles, area not bad. Lots of amenities.

Club House Suites

Annoying ad, interesting amenities, didn't check about smoking, rates reasonable

Nice, very handy, more money (I forget, 159?)

Too bad, it's booked, looks cool -

Some B & B's -

Too bad, no rooms available - http://www.noradixon.com/ (That one's in Corrales).

Sarabande, nice lady, they have six rooms around a courtyard, all seem to be available, $99-179. That's further north on Rio Grande, but nice street, and not far from the Flying Star Cafe (ask Tai Chi and Roger) and the Rio Grande Nature Center.

The Bottger Mansion - two least expensive rooms gone, but 4 left, $159. or so.

Cinnamon Morning - seem to remember it being $149 or so when Diane and I asked.

The Red Roof Inn that ehBeth found is a little further than all these away, but not all thaaaaaat far.

There's the Los Poblanos dys found (I didn't check it myself),

and some I named earlier in the thread, including Days Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Motel 6, etc., a little south of I 40, down off of Old Coors Blvd.
Think Shewolfnm will be staying there.

Tomorrow, Santa Fe...

Also, a reminder, those hotel guide things they give out in coffeeshops often have deals, and one clerk told us to make the reservation first and then bring the coupon if you find it before checking in. (I guess that would be for anyone driving, but hey, we could collect some of those here and mail em to you. I'll check what's in there next time I see one.
