At the Chicago gathering in 2006, some of us were nervous about 2 well-known A2Kers shunning each other because of political disagreements. They proved us wrong.....

Cool. I would suggest that the PDiddie's pick a place and time for Friday mid-day and post it here. Your new B&B's website notes that there are many fine places nearby in Old Town. Perhaps the proprietors or someone else might have a recommendation.
Looking forward to meeting yall.

Well, I do hope everyone comes. I appreciate that my post was the cause of dismay.

This may, or may not, be the best time for this but unfortunately I won't be able to attend either for reasons completely unrelated to anything previously posted or inferred.

Oh no!!!

We all were really looking forward to meeting you after admiring your posts on a2k for so long.

Do you think it will be possible to work around your schedule so that you can come? I'm sure you've already done that, it's just wishful thinking on my part.

There will be another time, hopefully in just a few months.

I'll just give a jingle to Dys and Diane's on Friday morning and determine availability for brunch/lunch and we'll pick a place then.

Mrs. Diddie wants to do the Sandia tram for certain. Maybe Saturday with lunch at the top? We skied there maybe twenty years ago

And there's a couple of restaurants she wants to try in Old Town, particularly ...

St Clair Bistro (This one is a winery, can you believe the luck?!)
901 Rio Grande Blvd NW
Old Town
505-243-9916
http://www.stclairvineyards.com/

Monica's El Portal
321 Rio Grande
Old Town
505-247-9625

Church Street Cafe
2111 Church Street (Behind the church.)
Old Town
505-247-8522

Local reviewers, pro or con?

On Saturday the 17th two events are taking place in Santa Fe (75 miles by interstate highway to the north) that may be of interest. Taos is another hour or more on from there, so if a day trip is in the cards then maybe the shorter of the two would be best.

-- a Native American Elders Storytellers Event at the Institute of American Indian Arts Museum, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (free admission); and

-- the Eldorado Studio Tour (also on Sunday the 18th and also free).

Does anyone have interest in those?

I've been on the tram, or cable car before and wouldn't hesitate to do it again. Haven't heard anything good about the restaurant, but what the heck! I'm wondering now, how many calories I should work into my budget.

I thought you might be, osso. There's like a hundred different artists and almost 70 studios, so it's probably a good bit of walking and maybe a little driving and probably some hunting for parking, perhaps not the best for those who are not all that ambulatory.

We could also take a tour of Old Town Albuquerque, mostly driving and not much walking ...

It's unclear to me about the picnic. Is it Saturday? Evening? in the park? Or am I confusing two different things?

Tram, but no pictures of RJB digging his fingernails and teeth into metal railings. Despite having served with the 101st Airborne, I don't get along well with heights. Penciling that in for Saturday morning sometime. perhaps.

As I recall it's completely enclosed, realjohnboy. It transports skiers to the top of the mountain in winter and is big enough for oh, maybe 12 or 15 people standing. Though I could be mistaken I don't think the windows even open.

The restaurant at the top of Sandia Peak serves as the ski lodge in winter (yes, the ski lodge is at the TOP of the mountain). It ought to be a little fancier than, you know a burger and a coke. But it's been twenty years since I have been, so things may have changed -- hopefully for the better.
