Looks kind of like a decision, sort of. Saturday tram. Lunch at the top is a maybe. Have to look at the prices, amongst other things.

Know what you mean RJB. I was really good with high places and minimal support when I was working in a power plant. Times have changed.

The restaurant at the top, High Finance, looks exactly that, roj. The Mexican food place -- Sandiago's -- at the bottom of the mountain where the tram leaves looks a little more reasonable, though we could just have a snack or a drink at either place.

Click on multimedia gallery at the site and look at some photos of the inside of the tram. Maybe that helps. Or not.

Needless to say, Mrs. D and I are now really looking forward to this trip and seeing everyone. And the beautiful Southwest vistas and clear mountain air and the cool weather. Especially the cool weather (we hit 90 today in Houston for the first time this year).

Could someone call the roll of attendees, please? Or would everyone who's coming sound off, perhaps?

The tram is worth it. I haven't been to the restaurant, just the surroundings, but I gather the view is good, and arguably worth the ticket, if not re the food. If you go early enough, maybe you can decide on the restaurant when you get there. Or, gads, maybe reservations, re tables with views. I'm ignorant on this, check.

The eateries associated with the tram have been panned here as being overpriced for what you get. Maybe we can find a place, like Shinn's (am I remembering the name?) for burgers with non-trammers. Or, if some of the locals are determined to have an open-house, Saturday after the tram might work well for an hour or so. We can work it out on Thursday or Friday if not before.
I have a list of folks around here somewhere who said they are likely to attend. I will look for it, but it is a week old so likely obsolete.

My official stance is this...

Email/phone numbers .. lets give them all to everyone.. and call everyone when we realize where we will be for the day.

Set in stone plans are going down faster then a Taiwanese hooker at a Marine Corps bar

Too many people coming and going and many with their own outline of things to do

(I've been on the tram, and I lived.)

Dunno about the restaurant, High Finance, will go if it works out (batch of negs on that, but I dunno)

So what happens re the Calico Cafe meet...

not necessarily divergent. We just need to keep in touch.

I love it, PDid's here. Man with a compass.

Oh, and I suppose a tee shirt.

I apologize. I've been reading the thread from the beginning and realize that some of the things I have been suggesting have already been cussed and discussed and dismissed.

Discussted, I'm sure some are with my not participating in the conversation for the past four months. But no worries.

Some will want to sit and talk, some will want to go and do, some will be there to vacation and some just for the conversation. It will all just flow easy, whatever we each do.

Tram, yes. Eating at the tram, meh. If all of us show up at once at D&D's then some of us will go over to Bumble Bee's. Or to a cafe'. I like the idea of Madrid too, and then some can go on to Santa Fe and some can go back and nap. It's all good.

Just one thing: Jo, I'm probably not wearing or even bringing any tee-shirts. I've gotten too fat for them.

PDiddie, I can pretty much assure you that nothing has been dismissed. Nothing. And since pretty much nothing has been firmly decided, your absence was only a concern in that you might have changed your mind.

Well, you know what they say. Plain fools, damn fools, and volunteers. I think I would need a good graphing program, even if I remembered all the possibles.

It involves going through the pages. I got, at one point, to the fifties.

Well, manana. My plan is to be concise. All of you will understand this is usually not my way, but I do get concise.

For Pete's sake, wolfie, when something that funny is said, I snort, I really snort, so everyone be forewarned.

I have been on the tram with my son's a few times and the restaurant at the top is not worth the price although the view is glowious. If you do not plan on ordering dinner, you don't get to sit at the tables with views, so the diddies suggestions about eating before or after the tram ride are good to keep in mind.

For those a tiny bit afraid of heights, as am I, the tram is a shivery scare that leaves you feeling so proud of yourself for surviving, that the ride is worth it for those few minutes of feeling like superman or superwoman, especially as you walk off acting completely nonchalant.

The views are astounding and give a much more detailed view of how the mountain is formed with all the sharply carved valleys and animal trails. I'll be on for that if there isn't anything else that needs doing at home. The tram rides are every fifteen minutes.

The idea of visiting us and BBB is great. And don't worry about missing lunch as we will have lunch meats, chips and the usual fare available for all. Oh, and I promised Thomas that I would bake an apple pie, so if we haven't already eaten it, there will be dessert. The deli type food will be available on both Saturday and Sunday, so please plan on eating here at least for a snack. With only two of us, leftovers often go to waste, which means that eating it all up will be doing us a favor.

The Calico Cafe has been agreed on for Friday night. Since Mame isn't getting in until late afternoon, we should plan on not going until 7:00 or so.
I'll check on the schedule she sent in order to get a better idea of a good time for all of us.

Madrid is a delightful place that isn't interesting enough for frequent visiting, but is an enjoyable outing once in a while. For visitors, I do recommend it. Can't remember the name of the movie, but it was shot there last year. Part of the set was a restaurant which has remained as a working restaurant. Might be fun. There are some interesting galleries and craft shops that aren't terribly overpriced.

If shewolf comes along be prepared to hear snorting from me. She gets to me and I let loose. Sorry, but I have never claimed to be dainty or always well behaved.

Chai, Chai, Chai, please come!
