I'm with you, Eva, on that, as - let me guess - are Diane and Roger. Hard to promise anywhere is great, re hearing... but some places are worse. I did ok, once we adjusted seats, when Blatham and Lola and Diane and Dys and I were at the Indigo Crow. But... that was in the patio. I've just given up there, though it's not a particularly troublesome place for normal folk re sound, in the interior space, re any other place.
Thus my semi interest in the old cafe kittycorner to the hat shop. No problemo.
That's part of my interest in Vivace, as they have a separate possible room. On the other hand, the restaurant at say, 8 pm, is very loud for me. And a separate room may seem to bespeak money for the place.
It could be more expensive at dinner time, but the whole restaurant is a quiet place and not expensive, in the afternoon. Well, usually quiet..
So, I still like patios, as we can move around easily and sit fairly near, good for all of us not to be glued to chairs.
That's me, posting to start others saying what you think.
So why don't we agree on the Flying Star since there are quite a few of us with hearing problems. (Are we getting that old? Will we be talking about good bowel movements in a couple of years?) Really, I do know that some have had hearing problems since childhood, I was only kidding, just kidding...
RJB, coming by for a drink and talk before going to pick up Walter sounds very nice. It's a good chance to talk without too many people, especially for those of us with poor hearing.
For now, why don't we plan to go to the Calico Cafe for breakfast on Saturday morning? It has a lovely patio and the best huevos rancheros. There are also items on the menu that aren't hot at all.
Anytime you are downtown, there is the greek diner on Central near the Stetson hat shop. It has both Greek and Mexican and American food, all done very well, and it is convenient for downtown.
I imagine that during the day, some of us will be far afield while some might be at our house talking. Spin's is very near us.
If we can agree to the Calico Cafe on Saturday am, that will give us a chance to hatch plans for other places to meet and eat. You all will need to give us an idea of where you will be going and when you will come back if we want to plan on getting together at the same place for dinner.
Also, when I'm traveling, I really don't want to eat three meals a day. Bob and I usually have breakfast and dinner with lunch or a snack anytime during the day.
For now though, can it be Calico for breakfast on Sat. am?
My last post didn't mention Sat pm at the Flying Star. RJB made the suggestion and I agree. Space, good food and if anyone objects, they can tell us about it at breakfast at the Calico Cafe on Sat. am.
I have not read through this in several days.. but I wanted to ask a favor...
If there are places suggested, and it is decided on a meeting of sorts..
Can someone post the physical address?
I plan on printing out mapquest pages of directions to and from our hotel for the suggested meeting areas so that if I get turned around ( have not driven in Albq in 4 years or more..) I can just bring out the map that gives me specific instructions...
pretty please with sugar on top?
Is the Calico the place in Corrales, or something I haven't seen? Anyway, I'm penciling in Calico Saturday morning, and Flying Star in the evening. Shewolf and I are stopping at Taco Bell, so I'm trying to keep a time slot open for that.
On things to do; I'm open to Sandia Peak, either by car or funicular. Petroglyphs won't work for me. I can no longer handle walking on rough terrain.
Hmm..
I can not believe how much I have forgotten about Albq.. but..
I wanted to make a suggestion.
What about a park lunch?
Everyone can grab something from the grocery store, and we can all meet in a large park some where and spend the afternoon if it is not too hot?
Frankly.. we are not going to be able to join in at the restaurants. Our budget is not going to allow that.
So what about an outdoor, nice park area one day? or early evening?
Shewolf, you are a genius. I'm scratching Taco Bell and writing in picnic.
That's okay with me as well.
However, and since I've been there as well, I remind johnboy's post some pages back
where he wrote:Ha. I recall the pub in Chicago where I asked where Ossobuco, JoefromChicago and Sublime might be. The hostess stared at me like I was crazy. Later on, when money was being tossed on the table, the waitress came up and quizzically asked if we knew someone named "LiontamerX." He paid most of our bill, she said.
Please don't decide not to come to some event because of the cost. Throw in what you can. The rest will be taken care of, I assure you, by the A2K Foundation For Happy Times.
I'll be looking up the locations of parks. Also, Bob and I would love for you all to come to our place for the picnic. Advantages are, bathrooms, refrigerator, lots of drinks on ice. On the other hand, our place is probably not going to be comfortable for more than 10 or 12 people.
If you agree, we would supply the soda pop, chips, catsup, mustard, maybe a couple of apple pies, if the rest of you could bring cold cuts, bread, salds cookies and whatever else sounds appealing.
Our place isn't tiny, but it would be pretty crowded with 16 to 18 people.
So, whaddaya think?
I'll bring anything that can be procured locally, without a lot of preparation.
I'm remembering the party that I invited 125 people to and 105 showed up.. to my one bedroom apartment. People loved that party.. but I'm glad, in retrospect, the floor didn't burst open and send us all down to the landlord's living room below. (Yes, the landlord was invited.) Well, they built more sturdily in the 1920's and 1930's, in California anyway.
I can't remember if the Rio Grande Nature Center has benches.. It's $3.OO per car to park in the park. Anyway, I'll look it up, re picnics.
Here's the link -

I called them and the lady said that there is a picnic shelter just by the parking lot. Diane, do you remember it? Or Roger? She also said is LESS crowded on weekends because they have a lot of kids coming to the park during the week.
This is sounding more desireable every Shewolfian minute. Unfortunately, it apprears for me that we will not be able to come in the middle of May*. But the major point is to emphasize the people rather than the venues. If we wanted venue we could go to Paris--which isn't a bad idea, except for the price right now. Francis would make the trip more worth the money, of course.
*We WILL, of course, come some day to be with Diane, Bob, and Jo--as well as to meet Asherman/Natalie and BBB.
Oh, I'm sorry you two won't make it, JL! But of course, come later when you can, for sure.
Um, from Johnboy 3000 miles away. I like the plan of a park on, say, Sunday. Little cost.
My understanding is that some folks in Alb and beyond don't get along together all that well.
If that is true, some space and time in a park might be a great idea.
I don't recall a picnic shelter, but if they say they have one, I'm sure they do.

Hmm
If that is the case then everyone should come equipped with a water gun.
Snots are to be shot on the spot.
So... a definite park meeting on Sunday the 18th?
10 am to 2...ish?
Where at?
