Four weeks to go!
An offer was made to pick me up at the airport. Thank you, but given the chaos in the airline industry, I will decline. I would not want to subject anyone to the crapshoot of the airlines' on-time arrival rates. Instead I can use my hotel's shuttle service (what is the appropriate tip to the driver, by the way?). I could call someone and perhaps anyone interested could join me Thursday afternoon somewhere near the Best Western Rio Grande for snacks and a drink prior to yall collecting Walter.
Vivace sounds nice but if I am in the SW USA my preference would be for real South of the Border food which I suspect is going to be a lot different than Taco Bell.
I have said that I believe that nothing is required of the locals, but I suggest that yall decree that reservations are going to be made at some place for some time on Friday or Saturday afternoon or evening.
I am getting psyched.
First, lets get something clear. They ain't nothing better than Taco Bell. Okay, go ahead with the planning.
Yeeup.
That does it.
I having dinner with Roger..
Make a reservation? For how many? For what? When? Does everybody mainly want southwestern food? I have been with many visitors and some who live here who shun real southwestern food. (There's hope, some places have a mix.) Do people care if they can get wine or beer or not?
We have put out a lot of suggestions. I think I remember only one positive comment about a restaurant.
I have been trying to be quiet so you could all work out what you might like or not like; some have been added since the early lists, The Frontier, Spinn's and Taco Bell (there would be a photo!) ... oh, and the old-fashioned cafe without a name at 5th and Central, kittycorner from the Men's Hat shop, old albuquerque in its way.
We also might not always get together at night, but in the afternoon, as people have different bedtimes/wake up hours. Also, "lunch" or mid afternoon repast tends to be less expensive and a bunch of us care about that. Places are quieter in the afternoon, which matters for another bunch.
Good, johnboy, for restarting this decision business.
*Addendum - I just called the Flying Star, they do have wine and beer. That's a middle choice, by the way, in that there are plenty of southwestern themed dishes, but not at the pitch of heat available at some other places.
** addendum 2 - I think I'll make up a list of suggested possible places, so that people can print them out in case they find themselves facing a fat
phonebook restaurant section.
Far be it for me to decree this, but I would suggest that we go for the Flying Star at 5 pm or so on Sat 5/17.
It is not an official main event. We have none planned.
Post here if you will be able to join us. Or pm me. We should be able to get a head-count in order to reserve.
I am sorry about coming across as authoritarian. But, damn it, we have to keep moving.
Well, I see a thread full of "I don't want to" (do anything, mostly), and almost nothing re moving in any way otherwise. Except talk somewhere.
I know I sound passive aggressive. So when are you all going to say what you think? I am not organizing this. Have spent some time typing up options.
I'll just agree with you, RJB - it seems easier - but then there have been no murmurs otherwise - and be there early, by an hour or maybe more, since I leave early, and will get there early.
Signed,
Fire and Light,
which happens to be the name of a glass design company in my old neck of the woods.
If you all agree on that, I'll call them. But. I'll wait to hear, in case people have other ideas.
Flying Star works for me. The patio is quiet enough to allow conversation, and 5 pm is better for me than an early breakfast anywhere. Hope they let us use the patio without bringing a dog. It's the place to go to dine with poochie.
I know what! If Sally will act right, we can pass her off as a dog.
Not a prayer of that, she'll be people...
my own opinion; calico cafe is the best mexican (and standard american) breakfasts, Indigo crow is the best in dining and Flying Star is the best all around just sitting and muching and or course there are others.
No problemo. If you have a dog, that's fine.
Aaaack. I'm see I've acted as obscurantist. I have sat in the patio at Flying Star sans d0f many times.

If you want just a good hamburger Spinns is the place and there's always Route 66 for frito pie (am I the only one?) we have other places in mind as well depending on the wants of our guests.
sans dOF ??
what terrible thing did I say?
I been Googling, but arrived at nothing...
(some kinda hat mebbe?)
I'm see.
Let that be a lesson..
I bet sans dOF means without DOG.
So, dys, your view re time of day, and possible places and why..
"I'm see." I might like that, may adapt, adopt.
Flying Star sounds like a good bet.
I vote for anywhere the seasoning isn't too hot and I can hear.
Southwestern, American, Italian, you name it, I'll be there.
I just about think Flying Star, with or without dog, is the place for audible conversation. I do think Spinns has the better burger and maybe a wider menu. Lots of places I haven't visited, of course.
