I see lots of people over the life of this thread are hoping to meet people and don't care about anything else. Well, yes.... of course. But I also trust you don't want to hang out at D & D's for 72 hours. That would not be good for them, however pleasant for the rest of us.

Some of my best memories of past awk get togethers are from some of us just walking and talking, and not so much from some clump or other. Just an opinion.

No, Abq is not about sightseeing. But we need venues for walking, talking, and sitting.

Saying you just want to meet people is not all that useful, she snips.
Please read the thread to date and add places you might prefer or signal what interests you, if anything, of places mentioned. Or come up with other ideas.

Huffs, gathering her silks.

put yer silks down, osso. I think the point is that we'll all just agree to certain central gathering spots for certain meals and then compare notes on who wants to do what when. No one wants to abuse D&D's hospitality (she says hopefully) and we are all sensitive to the strain of extended visiting on dys' health (more hopes there).

As far as a 'come one, come all' event, I'd suggest Saturday over Friday since at least some of us are arriving Friday afternoon and may be delayed unexpectedly. Those arriving earlier in the week will have ample opportunity to get together in small groups and post what they've come up with for excursions and/or meal plans here so the rest of us can keep up.

I'm soooo glad to see that Roger is venturing in for the weekend. Saves me from a long day trip to Farmington and back. Also looking forward to meeting D&D, Mame, the pdiddles, and the wolf pack (hopefully) as well as anyone else I haven't met who jumps into the swim. I'm also looking forward to reconnecting with those who I've met previously, not the least of whom is you, dear friend.

I can easily see folks collecting for lunch and whiling away the hours at a table, or deciding to meet at a particular hotel lobby for drinks and chats, or possibly a sight-seeing trip or two, but for those of us on a short time line being with the peeps is much more valuable than seeing the sights.

My home, one mile from Dys and Diane's house, is available for meeting, talking and snacking. I have lots of room for a crowd. You all could meet Dolly's new Maddy 2 puppy.

Let me clarify my comments...I know some have mentioned side trips to Santa Fe, Taos and other places. I'll only have three days (like several of you), and I'd like to get in as much face time with you guys as possible. So I'd prefer to stay in ABQ for the weekend and visit rather than spend precious time driving around northern New Mexico (which I've already seen several times.) I'll happily go along with whatever folks want to do, though, if it means getting to spend more time with friends.

It should be easy enough for me to make a Friday night meal since my flight is scheduled to land at 9:35 that morning. But I agree with JPB...Saturday is a safer plan for a large gathering.

Thanks for the offer, BBB! We'll probably take you up on it! Besides, I definitely want to meet your new doggie. Cool

I agree, Eva. I'll do practically anything, as long as it's with some of you. I would like to meet for dinner, small or large group, I don't care, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. And hang out during the days, of course. I leave on the Monday. So whomever makes plans, please count me in.

I know Johnboy is putting together a framework for a schedule, and he asked me to do one too. Still thinking about that, not for me to decide - but I think we need a framework to bat things around, and even with a framework to have a lot of choices very elastic, and that in talking about it, we can work a few 'For Sures'.

For example, I suppose I always thought that it made sense we could meet at the Flying Star on Rio Grande on Saturday, flexible time, thinking afternoon in the patio. But... that might not make sense if people go to the Tram in the morning and then have brunch, at the High Finance or elsewhere. On the other hand, those people could just have pie... or cake... or.... (they have a large menu).

Amazingly, since I do like wine and booze, I've never noticed if they even have wine or beer there.

Ah, but they do at the Indigo Crow...

Time to start talking about likes and dislikes.

Nah, your turn. Of all the things mentioned on this whole thread, what attracts you? And don't tell me getting together with a2kers. Past that...

(Fits in the Stetson Hat Place on Central, downtown, in case it wasn't previously mentioned, with the good cafe across the street and slightly to the east)

I'm usually up for eating, or just coffee.

The tramway sounds great, depending on cost.

No interest in Stetsons at all.

Petroglyphs sounds okay. I do recall lots of walking in blazing heat, with a lot more petros than glyphs, some kind of weird stickers in my socks, and a security guard at the trailhead due to vandals, but all in all, worth doing.

Weird stickers, my yard is a goathead sticker factory. Well, that's last year. This year I'll probably be raising tumbleweed.

I don't remember a guard person, but you've probably been there more than me, or I just didn't see.

But, to others, even I, a totally out of shape person (though without serious disability) could make it to see some glyphs.

Kind of like in the giant redwoods. You could see serious trees not all that far from the starting place, by design.

We are peddling forward I think, and are back on track for going..

i think

and if it ends up that we do go, I want to side with Eva's comment 1000%

We will only have about 3 or 4 days as well, and I would MUCH , MUCH , MUCH rather spend it having face time with everyone, then driving around the state.
Though trip to northern New Mexico , even Santa Fe sounds beautiful... that is not why I am arriving when I am.

I am coming to meet all of these other people who enter in text on this forum. You have all intrigued me over the years and now it is time I get to meet you, and hug you to an inch of your life.

My best day would be getting up in my hotel room, getting Bean and Ian fed and ready to go.. to then meet up with a group of people over a table, in a large/ish room to gab for the afternoon.. then to sneak off with some for drinks later in the day.
Maybe get in a park or two... a house visit , or something else to that matter.. but my goal is to have a three day gab fest with everyone.

Can that happen in the Tram? yes
OVer dinner? yes
at someones house? yes
at a small park ? yes

In a car, no
at a movie.. no
( for our budget.. ) over a 50.00 a person dinner? No.

I would love to throw out great places to go, and things to do.. but in my humble opinion.. .. did you hear me? I said humble.. ... Laughing ..

This is a short meeting time... lets sit together for as long as we can.

Sight seeing is fun, but I do not gather that is the reason everyone is flocking to this little city Smile

I've already mentioned that we can't do much, if any, sightseeing, but we would sure love to just visit with all of you a2kers.

Rockhead and I have talked and I mentioned that I think both he and Dys were raised by wolves when it comes to social niceties. If Dys gets sleepy, he just gets up and goes to bed. If that sort of thing insults you, then don't come. I can't imagine any of the friends coming here would ever let something like that bother them, but you never know. Besides, Dys is asleep when his head hits the pillow--how I envy that--so we can continue visiting right here--out on the patio or in the living room.

As for the tram and the restaurant, I've written about both several times. I stick with my opinion of the restaurant, but if you don't believe me, here is a link to some reviews:

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g60933-d492658-Reviews-High_Finance-Albuquerque_New_Mexico.html

And remember, the prices are from $21.00 to $50.00, not bad for a restaurant where you and be confident of a good meal, but highway robbery for High Finance (is the name indicative of some motive on their part--is Ameriquest involved? Just wondering.

A deli lunch or restaurant lunch just before or just after the ride would be perfect. Going up too early might be pretty chilly for some even in May. If it is unusually hot, (anything can happen concerning the weather), then earlier would be better. That is a decision that should be made at the time.

I can hardly wait!! I'll be jumping up and down by the time May comes around.

Yippee! I have moved Roger and the Shewolf clan from the "maybes" to the "probably, yes" category.

I don't mean to come across as an organizational freak. But we on A2K seem to have a tough time nailing things down.

How about this: 10 am on Sat, 5/17, for the tram ride (for those interested) and dinner at the Flying Star at around 6 pm (for those interested).
Several folks are staying at a B&B that seems to have a yard. That might be a great place, if the owner is ameanable, for us to hang out at on Saturday afternoon.

As for me, I will be getting into ALB on Wed, 5/14. around 2 pm. If anyone would like to go for a stroll and a snack, fine. Walter will be arriving later, past my bedtime.
How about the Calico Cafe at 9 am on Thurs, 5/15?
