I bet it was a six pack. Nothing better than a six pack to hold your gum.

but perhaps you weren't aware that many people shipped to Australia were shipped for stealing bread / food.

He who steals brings the consequences thereof upon himself

True enough.
The question is, should stealing food to feed your family be punishable
by separating you from your family?

As long as the criminal HAD NOTICE
that this was a possible penalty for the crime,
when he chose to take his chances: yes.

I doubt that larceny was the only way to keep his family from starving.
Did everyone else starve, who failed to steal ?

Quote:
Personally, the main contributing factor to a person stealing food
would be the failure of the Govt of the time, food being a necessity of life -
it hardly seems something punishable by deportation and hard labor.

In America, government was not erected as a means of GETTING FOOD.
It was established primarily for defense and for vengeance.

I don 't have sufficient information about your government to comment
upon its authority or its responsibilities.

U take me for a historical ignoramus ?

People in the US, generally speaking, appear rather ignorant of the rest of the world.
I would not have thought that the name Botany Bay
would have even registered as worthy of mention in US schools.

The source of America 's political and jurisprudential history is England,
which banished some of its criminals there.
We knew about it. In a sense, at the time, we were part of the same polity.

Quote:
Aside from that, no insult is meant.
Everyone, including you and I, are ignorant of many things.

SO STIPULATED.

I don 't know much about Canadia,
but thru out most of America,
when using OPEN CARRY,
u have never needed a license,
as long as it is not concealed.

Concealed gum is a serious concern in America....

Many businesses shun the concealed carry laws.....

That's the stupidest thing ever posted on A2K or any board.

Here are people fighting to protect your 2A rights and you use your 1A rights to "shoot" them down and suggest they be imprisoned.

What an ass. I vote to send CJ back across the pond.

In court, I asked a witness whether she was chewing gum.
She said that she swallowed it.

I apologized to her for that.
I only had in mind that we cud hear her testimony better
without obstructions. I did not mean to scare her into doing that.
