@dlowan,
Well I don't know that I love it, or that I'll watch every episode from A to Z ....
But the early episodes are quite intriguing, in a weird sort of way.
What I find interesting is that you finding yourself sympathizing with him, despite the fact he does some pretty frightful things, in his own detached sort of way.
A lot of blood & gore, though.
I like the atmosphere & life of Miami as presented to us, too. Very well done.

They did Mildred Pierce in the spring. I think it was 6 episodes.

edit: nope it was five episodes. It may still be available on HBO On Demand

The Borgias was good, but a little too caught up in the Renaissanciness of its scenery and lightening.

United States of Tara rocks, though.

Handle it with kid gloves. I read the books after watching the series..Hang on, I've already written about this on your Norway thread. You know what I was going to say.

Yesterday, Curb your Enthusiasm had a lovely parody of the Ground-Zero-mosque scuffle. Highly recommended!

@Thomas,
I do love Curb, it makes its way over here slowly. Sky Atlantic have just bought the rights, and they're showing them from the beginning. They don't treat the show with respect though, change scheduling almost weekly, and take it off for something more ratings driven. They've just finished showing the episode where Larry is in the Producers. Now it's off the air for a re-run of Boardwalk Empire.

I love it...but it's like Fawlty Towers....it just winds up tighter and tighter and then ends...there's no release. I have to watch it in bits.

@JPB,
Just watched Mildred Pierce on HBO on Demand. I found it quite moving, albeit in a depressing way.

Didn't appeal to me, not one mobster, alien, vampire or Jewish misanthrope in the whole thing.

Just finished series 4 of Dexter.
What a terrible ending!
Horrible!
Series 5 won't be available for a while. Perhaps it's just as well?
That'll give me time to recover. Wink

OK, The Sopranos next?... yes or no?
I know everyone else saw it ages ago .... but I haven't.
Is it just boy stuff and gangsters?
Or is there more to it than that?
I ask because committing one's self to six series of any program is no small thing!

@msolga,
Like you I never saw the Sopranos when it first came out. It's being shown from scratch on Sky Atlantic. I've just seen the first two series and just started on the third. I'm tuning in every Wednesday, it's good so far.

Like you I was very upset by the ending of Dexter4, but don't worry it's just a story. John Lithgoe is alive and well, and in the new Planet of the Apes movie.

@msolga,
I love Dexter. The story line is great. Is series 4 the one where Jimmy Smitts was a co-star for the series? Yes it did end kinda unpretty.

BUT, like a car wreck, the show must be watched intentley.

@msolga,
The Soprnos is a preeety good view of the life of the mafiosi and , besides, it shows New Jersey (Motto"We cant pack any more people in here so bet it") to its "best".

The entire cast is superb and the show is a study of dysfunctionality at all its levels.

I loved it and so did the critics.

We may have some points of discussion as you get to its end but for now, enjoy the ride.

@farmerman,
Spoiler alert!:

No, the end of series 4 is where his wife dies ... (Oh no! Shocked )
Just when he he thinks he's stitched things up very nicely by finally killing the "bathtub killer".

It's a bit addictive, isn't it? Smile
