The CPD and the political machine of Chicago has been corrupt forever. The mob never really left. Mayor Daley is a one man wrecking crew.
My Dad tells stories of being at sporting and other large events in Chicago. When trying to leave, they'd literally have to bribe the traffic cops to stop traffic to they could cross the street to the parking garage. The cops could pocket thousands a night doing this. And this was 40 years ago. Another time a friend of my father ground looped his small plane at Meigs and destroyed the plane. When he came back with a flatbed truck to pick it up, the police insisted that he pay them for an escort out of the airport and to the city limits. After he coughed up the money, the escort disappeared after only a mile or two.
The city of Chigago and the mayor are very anti-gun because it threatens their chokehold on the city to have armed populace.
Sorry this happened to your freind eoe.
Outrageous and horrifying, eoe. Sorry this happened to anyone. Especially sorry it's so close to home. My sympathies to the family.
I'm so sorry, Eoe! What a terrible thing to happen!
Thank you all for the condolences. I will pass them on to Miss Lula in my thoughts.
cjhsa, I was in Chicago last week and found that many, many people have a different take on Daley Jr. The corruption you speak of was surely in place when the old man was in power but the present Mayor, surprisingly, has won over so many of his original detractors (my brother for one) and now they're actually praising him. He has spread the wealth in ways that his father would never ever have done. Even if his fat racist ass was the mayor today.
Not saying that corruption does not still run rampant there. Oh hell yes. But that's everywhere. Chicago's infamous politics and "scratch my back" mentality will outlive us all.

He'd been a drug addict for years and years, stealing from her, from his family, he wasn't **** to be honest but, Miss Lula should not have watched her son die like that, screaming for her to help him. Candy should not have watched her brother die like that. And I fear for the family. Another sister is on the force. How will she rectify this for herself? For her mother?
Not knowing all the details, I can only say that I'm very familar with that section of Chicago and I can also say that members of the Chicago Police Department have a tough job to do.
I was wondering when the "police have a hard job" contingent would slither by...
Might it not also be true, though?

This post has nothing to do with the mafia, so why mention the mob?

It's very true, so why not say it?
If these guys/gals didn't have balls they couldn't work the city streets the way they have to in Chicago.
They also can't work the streets effectively if the populace doesn't trust them not to taser them to death. Cooperation from the public is the better part of police work.
That's exactly what happened here, FreeDuck, after that kid was shot by police in his front yard. People became afraid to involve the police.
I don't think that saying the police have a hard job is at all the same as saying "the kid had it coming". The police DO have a hard job. The kid DIDN'T have it coming.
The whole thing is just so tragic.

I was so expecting to hear that, or something along those lines, from my brother today when he called. But he surprised me.

I just don't understand - if some one has cuffs on his hands and ankles how can they be resisting arrest whether in the squad car or in her home?
They can still be violent kicking, etc.
Especially while being tasered.
Kicking with both feet is very difficult to do while standing. And if he's not standing, where is the threat?

If the police put cuffs on his wrists and ankles I'd think the man was on the floor.
This story continues to make a hard little pit in my stomach.

Couldn't the police officers simply stepped out of the reach of his kicking legs seeing he was on the floor?
