It's mightily, scarily cold here, to the point where going in the water could be lethal fast I imagine. Seems to be better there, but still cold. Looks like rescue stuff is happening quickly though.

This says no deaths nor serious injuries reported (!):

This is within blocks of the Frying Pan. Glad I wasn't there today. Watching a plane crash into the river is not something I'd want to see.

I, too, would prefer if it was one of those helicopters with investment bankers in them.

It is a relief for once to see such a story and learn that no one was killed.

What I find interesting about this story, is it broke first on the social networking site twitter.com. It is becoming more and more common for the first reports of big events coming first hand from the people living it.

Here is a picture taken by someone on a ferry going to rescue them:

and here is a news article talking about all the first hand sources: http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/01/15/plane-crashes-in-hudson-first-pictures-on-flickr-tumblr-twitpic/

At least we know a "water landing" isn't lip service. I don't know how many successful water landings there have been.

I'm imagining birds everywhere jumping for joy and celebrating..."Yeah, we got one, boys!"

My office sent around an all-points email saying no one from the company was on the plane. Man.

I had that thought too!

Just read this:

Quote:
Among those on board was one infant who appeared to be fine, the mayor said.

Pretty amazing.

That plane had a bad case of "bird flew."
