What pisses you off personally is definitely your business. It just seemed to me you were trying to say something covering a little broader area than Sozobe's personal likes and dislikes. If you weren't saying something in general about men's overall responsibility to women, but were only expressing what personal buttons this issue has raised, then there's not really much in that vein open for discussion, that I see.

On this one, I'm basically with ci. I think people like Kobe are opened up to blackmail and smear campaigns.

Points to ponder:

1) Women routinely throw themselves on athletes.
2) Athletes generally like this.
3) Athletes get in on as often as they please.
4) Many of these sexually active athletes are married, rich and prefer to keep their extramarital activities private.
5) This is a situation ripe for blackmail, and 15 minutes of fame.
6) I think, until facts point to another possibility, that Kobe screwed her, and then she proceeded to screw Kobe.

There is no factual basis to have an opinion on this case because the facts are not yet known.

Neverthess, people WILL opine, apparently because they find it irresistible to do so.

Sum total of my opinions:

People (men or women) who cheat on their spouses/ significant others piss me off.

Kobe at least cheated on his wife... that pisses me off.

So, no, nothing about men's responsibility to women -- about everyone's responsibility to not be an idiot.

I agree, eoe.

You started this branch of the conversation, actually.

Well, actually I mentioned the very thing in the opening post.

This is one case I'm not going to make opinion. Only the two people involved know for sure what happened, and both their stories are going to be in conflict. c.i.

Since the groupies are there and it's the natural nature of men to take advantage of that fact (according to our guy snood), is there any way to avoid this type of accusation? I think not. So, the ONLY way to avoid such a scandal, not to mention criminal charges, is for the guy to take his vows seriously and keep his zipper zipped. Once you unzip the monster, you're fair game.
Kobe unzipped the monster. He's fair game.

Don't put frikkin words in my mouth. I didn't say it was natural to "take advantage" of a goddam thing. I said it was unrealistic to expect
more abstinence from Kobe Bryant than from any 24 year old, and that having it thrown in your face 24/7 would make any man's abstinence hard to bet on.
Don't falsify to strengthen your opinions, just express your opinions.

The fact remains that Kobe exercised his will, he is in the public eye, the media sells ****, and Kobe's squeaky clean image will for evermore be tarnished.

Anything else is to be proven.

My opinion is that the DA perused this case very closely and has more than bruises, DNA and he said/she said. I could be wrong, I thought he would not file charges simply because of his name - and have now been proven wrong on that count!

Yup, they must have something they think is pretty strong, or they would never risk the high profile scrutiny for the DA's office this is certain to bring.

Don't worry, they play basketball in jail. Don't they?

Kobe'll have lots of playing time in the "BigHouse", if found guilty.

...and he'll also be gainfully employed, washing big bubba's underwear.
Shocked

(sorry)

BUT SERIOUSLY, FOLKS - WE WON'T EVER REALLY KNOW WHAT HAPPENED IN THAT ROOM, AND THE JURY'S PROBABLY GONNA HAVE TO MAKE A JUDGEMENT CALL, BASED ON CREDIBILITY.

I just read in the NYT about his press conference... taking several minutes to compose himself, voice breaking... and did feel sorry for the guy.

I also had a flashback to when the news of the OJ thing first surfaced, though... I was at a party/ gathering, and said something alarmingly naive like, "OJ? OJ would never do something like that." So while I have the same feeling about Kobe, who knows. Sad

If so, no problem when the case goes to Court.

Your voice would quake and shake if you were about ready to lose a $45 million sneaker contract. Mad

That's actually exactly what I meant, J.J... he's messed things up big time, even if it turns out that he's innocent of sexual assault. If he is guilty, he deserves it (and more), but if he is innocent of everything but adultery, that's a mighty big price to pay.

If one can take his news conference at face value (I for one, have no other way to take it), then he cares very much for the life he has; therefore, from this day forward - it has changed! And, as sozobe says:

Quote:
but if he is innocent of everything but adultery, that's a mighty big price to pay.

Far bigger that the material losses, IMHO.
