a slideshow from yesterday's trip to the Don Valley Brickworks

wiki page on the brickworks

Quote:
The Don Valley Brick Works is a former quarry and industrial site located in the Don River valley in Toronto, Ontario. Currently the buildings sit mostly unused while the quarry has been converted into a city park which includes a series of naturalized ponds. The Don Valley Brick Works operated for nearly 100 years and provided bricks used to construct many well-known Toronto landmarks, such as Casa Loma, Osgoode Hall, Massey Hall, and the Ontario Legislature. The buildings are currently undergoing restoration, courtesy of Evergreen, a national charity dedicated to restoring nature in urban environments.

Thanks for the virtual hike, ehBeth. I've seen the chimney for years but never explored the grounds. (Made me nostalgic for the marsh boardwalk at Point Pelee National Park.) Those dandelions were beautiful.

Hi Tai Chi!

I've been trying to get down there every couple of weeks lately - and finally thought of taking the camera out two weeks ago to document the seasonal changes.

It's a wonderful site. I can hardly wait til the farmer's market starts there in two weeks.

I marvel that I've seen beaver lodges, muskrats, turtles, a bald eagle, lotsa ducks and red-winged blackbirds, a squadron or two of swallows ... all in the middle of this giant city.

Great pictures and site, ehBeth. And the yellow of the dandelions was spectacular. Must be a really good camera.

Well, it has been an eventual week. I got the small house in Durham - a HUD foreclosure. Will try to join something so I can upload pictures.

Sue, that's great news!

~~~~~
I'm quite happy with this camera, though it took me a little while to warm up to it. I'm definitely going to need to get additional memory for it, for the New York trip.
ul, don't hesitate to encourage your son to give Canada a try - there's simply so much to see - and there's a lot more open space than you can imagine - it's part of what I love about living here.
The Frost Saints (12th - 14th May Pankratius, Servatius und Bonifatius) were a bit late, but they sure did arrive. Chilly and wet.
Tomorrow is another Holiday here:Ascension Day.Tradionally our school has First Holy Communion. So no holiday for me.
ehBeth,
I was told that Oni, my daughter's dog, doesn't like thunderstorms. He hides under her chair and growls.
ul, your grand-dog just needs some training time with Oma :wink: or your company. I think my dogs trust their Oma and Opa hamburger more than they trust me when it comes to storms. They're still nervous, but a LOT quieter. Oma hamburger does NOT approve of small barking dogs.
