Such is the folly of religion. We think we something else; something supernatural for us to experience great purpose.

Maybe there is a way to redirect this drive to something less self-destructive, perhaps spool knitting.

Scott777ab,

What does it mean, "the force of life"? This terminology is undefined. It is not useful to this discussion to define it by another undefined term ("God").

What if I told you that "glarfo" is "zork", and "zork" is "glarfo"?
We all know that this is not true and that Zork is a planet in the Railian system while glarfo is what happens when snarks leave the gnitch.

Let us shun any hypothesis that makes man a puppet and God a tyrant crueler than any in history. - Erasmus

I'm glad you found it humorous -- most of my jokes go totally unappreciated. Confused

neo yes, when in doubt throw out scripture and follow man's teachings. God really loves that.
and as i said before we have freewill(we aren't puppets) but our freewill doesn't negate Gods foreknowledge in all things.

a forum for intelligent debate.
Please define intelligent debate? Forums have been around longer than Christians. Christians have used forums to discuss their beliefs. Whats the problem? Acts 17:21 may interest some. By the time you get to verse 34 you might note the similarity with the diverse reactions to this posting.

TO NEO: Have you not read the bible?
That is hitting a little below the belt Kate. Many of us have read the Bible and been helped to understand it more fully as time goes on and with the help of fellow Christians. Strong minded individuals seldom fit the description of those Jesus mentioned at Matthew 5:5 & 9 (Psalm 37:11)

By the way, do you see any difference between these expressions, "before the founding of the world," and before the creation "of the heavens and the earth." If you don't see any difference consider researching them. There is a difference.

Before God decided to create the world, did he already know what your next post will be?

My brother who isn't a Christian, but rather an atheist like me, once explained the concept of biblical free will as god doesn't know what choices you'll make, but he knows the outcomes of all the choices you could make and all the choices that that leads to.

For example, if the choice before me is to eat either an orange or an apple, god doesn't know what one I'll choose, but he knows what will happen no matter what one I choose.

This kept me stumped for a while, but then I realized that simply saying that god knows all possible outcomes of all things is radically different than saying god knows exactly what will happen in the world.

That is a very good explanation.

Another way of explaining it might be to say that before Adam and Eve sinned, for example, God knew there was a possibility that they would eat the fruit, but declined to peer into their moral outcome, thus permitting them free will. He is fully capable of allowing free will because he has the power to remedy any act against his purpose. In the case of mankind, he has provided a perfect human to willingly undergo Adam's death sentence in our behalf.

Other than your opinion, what do you base this on?
