Edgar, you say what I say is not relevant to your thread, but here you are writing your thoughts, so by logic, when you talk to me, you're thinking about me, therefore it is relevant to your thread, yes?

@edgarblythe,
The cold spell (70s) will only last two days here in ABQ, then we will be back to flirting with the 90s for awhile longer.
Hi edgar, Just dropping a line as we sail towards Iceland. It was a whole day of cruising yesterday, and all day today. I'm looking forward to setting foot on my 90th unique country some time tomorrow when we arrive. After Iceland, we return back east to Scotland and Ireland, before we head westward to Canada. Smooth sailing so far.
Today marks six years since hurricane Ike gave us hell. My neighborhood went for weeks without electric and running water. Fortunately, the apartments went quickly back to normal and we could take showers there and could have slept there too. But we only spent the night there once or twice. We wanted to be home to fix things and just protect what we've got. One of the most infuriating things - The water company waited until a day or two before electric was restored to put a generator at the water pump and give us water. The bastards could have let us have water all along, but were too chintzy to do it. I have been through a number of hurricanes. Ike was the only one that inconvenienced me that much.
It's funny. You've been through many but the one you remember the most is the one where humans had some control and didn't exercise it, that's not amusing per-say, at all.
The electric lines took forever to be restored. In times previous, I only lost service a day or two. Another extra for Ike, I ended getting my biggest tree cut down. It was innocent, but stood over us in a threatening manner. The tree people told my neighbor they didn't like it and I ended coerced into bringing it down. Still, the more I studied it, the better sense it made to do that. The tree towered forty feet without limbs or branches, made a "Y" and had the equivalent of two twenty foot trees on top.

Around 2PM I noticed five police cars stopped before a neighbor's house. After a while, perhaps an hour, four heavy duty wreckers parked at the scene. Now, three hours later, they still are sitting there. Some of the cop cars are sitting three abreast, so that passing cars have to take to the grass. A few minutes back, two women came out of the house in question and brought out filled plastic bags to the nearest cop car. But nothing has changed. More, later.
One of the girls makes trips back and forth, house to cop car. Must be an intermediary. The number of cops doubled a few minutes back, but one of the wreckers gave it up and left.

They set up a camera on a tripod and a rescue truck is there. About ten minutes ago seven cops and a dog walked around the house. After five minutes, a cop and the dog came back. A little later another cop came back.

All the wreckers left, then one came back. They have an SUV with the doors open. They keep walking the yard, as though looking for something.
I hope you enjoy your trip, I lived in Iceland the first 4 years of my life with my parents. My Dad was an air traffic controller. I have pictures from our base and lots and lots of snow.

@edgarblythe,
Have you figured out what happened? It's never good when the police show up. Hope no one is injured.

@edgarblythe,
Interesting and scary at the same time, given they are next door to you.

Since I last reported, the residents have backed up a truck and trailer and a van and are filling them with their belongings. I don't know which are going, or if it's all of them. A cop car has moved into the yard.
