(My sister in law's husband died less than two years ago.) About a year ago, she had an A/C man fix the same problem. He was up there about ten minutes and charged her over two hundred dollars.
It was a leaking drip pan, I believe.
I played with cap pistols all the time, when I was a kid. But I was able to leave guns out of my life in my later years and have not felt one bit inadequate as a result.
@edgarblythe,
She lives in Texas, right? Air conditioning repair folks are not a rarity there. Forget the guilt. If you need to do something, refer her to a company you would use.
One company advertises to let customers pay their bill, ten dollars a month.
@edgarblythe,
Edgar, I check Angie's list in my area. I was very skeptical because I have been ripped off, or someone attempts to rip me off in the past but I have found very good and honest workers thru the list. You have to join, but you can do a free trial period which I did when I burned out the garage door motor, and have continued to look for craftsmen who can handle big and small jobs, she should be able to find someone who can fix a drip pan for a lot less than $200 and stay longer than 10 minutes. She can review comments from customers that will be helpful. Good luck to your SIL.
I hate to diagnose a problem before I have seen it firsthand, but it likely is just slime buildup blocking the drain line. I told her that when it is cleaned this time, there are tablets sold for the purpose of preventing the buildup in the future.
@glitterbag,
Angies list isn't worth the money or benefit. I stopped my 'free' subscription, and we continue to get calls from contractors all the time about work on our home, even though we've had a complete renovation done in 2008. They are constant, and sometimes we get four calls a day. It's a complete nuisance that we can't stop even after calling Angies list.
It's a ******* nightmare!
@cicerone imposter,
So if one does use Angie's list they have to find a way to keep the contractors from getting a phone number.
@edgarblythe,
I think that's the only solution.
@cicerone imposter,
We have a printed paper called The Greensheet that has these type adds. I like that better, because you only contact the people you actually want to talk with.
I read a web page yesterday, in which the author tells us not to buy Nexium. The gist of it is, he claims it is made by the makers of Prilosec and the two products are the same. I believe Prilosec is cheaper. I am too lazy to look it up and provide links, but anybody interested can search the information and then decide for themselves.
Rocky has started to limit me on computer time, before he starts nudging my wrist, every time I begin typing. If my wrist moves, his nose bores in. I don't blame him. He just wants to be with me.
We have a new digital channel. Grit. It only shows movies with tough guys in them. The 7 PM feature, at least for now, will always be John Wayne. Yesterday, I noticed they were showing Chuck Norris and a film about POWs in Vietnam. Today was supposed to be their first day of regular broadcasting, but they have been going three or four days already. I haven't actually watched their movies, yet, but, they do provide an option, when I come home and all that's on is Ellen, Let's Make a Deal, or Judge Judy.
When Clinton was president, he implemented Republican policy choices, preempting their sound and fury. The Republicans got mad and everybody else, laughing, said, "Boy, he foxes them every time." Instead of impeaching the Bill, the opposition ought to have given him a gold trophy for advancing right wing causes. One more paving stone in the Reagan yellow brick road to dysfunctional government.
@edgarblythe,
Both of these PPI (proton-pump-inhibitor) meds are name brands for the generic omeprazole. I used to take Nexium for 5 years. When I went over to the VA pharma system, I've been omeprazole ever since with no problems and it's been 4 yrs .
"AstraZeneca markets omeprazole as Losec, Antra, Gastroloc, Mopral, Omepral, and Prilosec. Omeprazole is marketed as Zegerid by Santarus, Prilosec OTC by Procter & Gamble. When Prilosec's U.S. patent expired in April 2001, AstraZeneca introduced esomeprazole (Nexium) as a patented replacement drug.[ "
Nexium vs. Prilosec:
http://gerd.emedtv.com/prilosec/prilosec-vs.-nexium.html
"Many people wonder, "What is the difference between Prilosec vs. Nexium?" Although both medications are very similar chemically, there are important differences between the two medications. Prilosec and Nexium are approved for nearly the same conditions, but Prilosec is approved for use in children as young as two years old, while Nexium is only approved for adults. Also, Prilosec is more affordable than Nexium."
@Ragman,
Once, I had serious bleeding of the esophagus. I was about to see the doctor, when a friend gave me some Nexium. It immediately stopped the bleeding and I have never had discomfort or bleeding again. This goes back several years. That's why I am interested in such products.
I woke up, more tired than before I went to sleep. We had just gotten settled in for the night and it was past eleven thirty, when Rocky alerted me there was something going on. We went to the door and found a young man, of possibly eighteen or even twenty, had been steadily beating on it. I had heard something, but decided it was street noise. He had a buzz cut and wore neat clothing. He was high on something. "What do you want?" I asked, being blunt and unfriendly. He wanted some girl I did not know of. He insisted he had been inside my house with her. He finally was persuaded to leave, but he threatened me if it turns out I lied to him. As he went out to the street, I looked to see how he managed to get in, past the padlocked gate. He bent one of the posts over to the ground and stepped through. Rocky was at the street, but returned when I called him. I managed to get the fence closed in again. Mrs edgarblythe wanted me to call the law, but I decided that if a patrol car came and left without finding and taking the man away, he could damage our cars or even set the house on fire. So we tried to settle down and get to sleep. As I slumbered, I actually rolled over and hit the floor. First time in my life. I really think that guy was confusing my home with the one on the other side of the water company. I likely will not hear from him again.
@edgarblythe,
That reminds me of this episode, and the other episode I described in this opening post that had happened here a couple of years earlier, and the one that happened to my husband and his family back when he was a teen. Scary situations..

I think that was a location misjudgement by your bizarre caller, but still, yikes. Do you know the people on the other side of the water place?
Also, good Rocky, good Rocky!
