The tree I will cut is pretty tall, but it lacks the girth and height of a pine. I plan to use a bow saw at first, and only use the chainsaw once I get it to a safe level.

I was planning to stencil the fire lane stripes today, but it seems pretty wet out there.

Rocky has toned down a bit these days. Probably due to some nefarious scheme he's hatching.

@edgarblythe,
Do you mean, ed, that you are going to climb up this tree and start sawing away at branches with a bow saw. Why don't you chop it half way through at the base and pull it over with your truck.

When heavy branches get loose they have a will of their own which can't always be predicted.

@spendius,
I think the job will be both complicating and risky for ed.

@edgarblythe,
Don't fall, man (I know you know that). Steady footing for the ladder, eh?

@edgarblythe,
Aren't those tall weeds? I usually just snap those suckers off at ground level.

The top picture should be on the bottom. The house eave is at bottom when done like that. The pines are 60 footers.

@edgarblythe,
I can see it's dead. And TALL. Can't you call in a professional that has a crane? I think it's way too high to even attempt but I'm in awe at your braveness to do so.

I don't think you should even consider it ed.

Bought a new bow saw yesterday. Forgot about the rope. I'm borrowing the apartment complex owned chainsaw. Today was to be the day, but it rained all night and is predicted to rain all day too. Don't know what I am going to do with the pieces.

@edgarblythe,
I'm assuming you know how to do this, EB, but just in case you don't - here's one version of how to direct the fall of a tree and there are probably a zillion more sites like this online. (Never tried it myself)

It won't be the first tree I have cut down. The first consideration is, it's next to the house. Secondly, the tree leans toward my fence. Thirdly, it is too tall to simply fell, untrimmed, in a yard like mine. I plan to take it apart in about three sections. Now, I also have a bigger pine in the back that I am saving money to get a contractor to cut.

@edgarblythe,
When the contractor comes ed he will probably do the smaller one for a lot less than if you employed him to do it on its own. Most of his overheads are about the same when he comes out.

Today I will do the bow saw cuts. May or may not do chainsaw. I would have to go to town to pick it up. As I am old, I may be tired enough to wait, after all the climbing and arm action.

Texas anti homosexual marriage law has been struck down. But left in place, until the appeal is heard. I think I remember they actually put the law in Texas' constitution.

Isn't 'Texas constitution' an oxymoron, Edgar?
