Yesterday's front lifted red dust from Mexico and left it all over the cars. There was some rain, but not that much. Christmas week looks to be cool and dry.

@edgarblythe,
Impressive, edgarb.
I have two hexagon mahogany tables from my parents - still. They have central bases, sort of like sturdy tree trunks. They aren't all that big. If I get photoing again (I have too many damned photos already), I post a pic.

@edgarblythe,
I'd even give them to you (I'm de-accessing) but you'd have to come get them, and I know that's not easy. They are brakedownable, tops from the "trunks".

@ossobuco,
That would be nice, but, I don't foresee any long trips in the near future. Thanks.

The lead man is on vacation this week. They added an extra work day to my schedule. I need to find a way to make extra money so I can quit.

We've completed our Christmas preparations. Not much to it, really. I haven't heard fireworks, yet, but the trailer that they sell them from has been put at the strip center, just around the corner. I feel that we have too many trees, too many dead leaves, for bottle rockets and such, but they are almost always allowed. That's one reason I will be staying home, instead of attending the family get together, on Tuesday evening.

Find a niche and sell stuff on eBay. It took me about 2 years, but I'm impulsive.

There's a pathetically cheaply made movie on right now, about some Martians who kidnapped Santa Claus. I was charmed enough to watch about half of it.

The mechanic up the street just fired all his help for stealing from him. I hope he is proud, having deprived them of his living at a time of year when want is most keenly felt.

I wore myself out, yesterday. Replaced two exterior lights off a ladder, cleaned out the insides and lines of a dryer that was overheating, repaired a microwave that blew a fuse. The dryer was a 1983 model. I had to clean the motor and everything about it. The lint trap had been left out during the last painting and it was about half clogged with paint and dirt. Blew enough lint out of the long line to stuff a pillow. But it was performing like a new one in the end.

A working day. I no longer enjoy this part of my life. Fortunately it only lasts four hours.

I was given Killing Jesus, yesterday. After the first few pages, I really don't want to read it. I was given a Collin Street fruitcake. Already, I have devoured half of it.

My word processor was unresponsive, when I clicked 'save,' to keep the new typing from disappearing. After several tries, I decided to put the file on disc. But even though the file was unresponsive, it was still open. I had tried to drag the file to the disc. My clumsy handling of it caused my book to get deleted. Fortunately, I had both printed and saved everything up to nearly the present. I should be able to rescue all or most of the manuscript. Sometimes I miss my old typewriter.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, I always back up important documents with two separate names. That way, if I lose one, I can always go to the backup. Mr. Green

@edgarblythe,
What you should do ed is let A2k keep the record of what you have to say. There are sufficient threads and posts to provide a reason, an excuse if you like, or just a springboard, to let fly on any matters you have on your mind. Any you feel coy about you can pm them to a trusted friend and they will be saved as well. A diatribe against the employing classes for example.

There must have been a lot of lost scripture I should have thought. Perhaps the Scriptures represent the mental state of a tiny minority of the tidiest record keepers with a chip on their shoulder. They must have had the idea that what they had to say was of significance for the future. All that scraping on a dried out goatskin with a quill.

And -- my goodness--they were right! Without them I doubt any of us would know of the existence of the Straits of Hormuz. Or of us.

@edgarblythe,
Tell me about the fruitcake. I'm one of the three or four people in the world who likes fruitcake. In particular an old Joy of Cooking recipe. I think it was the Dark Fruit Cake. A giant deal to do, involving 15 eggs, separated.. Ours we wrapped in cheesecloth soaked in cognac and then wrapped in foil.

I also tasted Panforte in Siena and liked it very much - and have subsequently learned how to make it (not hard using a Divina Cucina recipe). At this point I use dried fruits instead of candied ones for any of this stuff.

Next, I love homemade panettone, but it takes up time, lots of dough rises - while it is actually easy.. just let it rise.

I have the book back on my computer, minus the last two pages. Just imagine if I had trusted the computer, after all this work and time.

This particular work will not be presented to a2k in any form. In fact, it will be offered under a name I will not divulge.
