I think today will be a sort of free letty day, in that the surgery will allow her to resume life as normal. Certainly a concern as is any surgery, but also a hopeful new start. Good wishes go your way, letty.
Yesterday, I was watching the movie, Come Back Little Sheba - Shirley Booth and Burt Lancaster - Well, back when TV was still fairly new to me, I managed to view a few scenes. When it was rebroadcast, I always missed it. When my youngest daughter had a friend over, about twenty two years ago, I set the VCR to record it, because it played so late at night. I told her to leave the recorder alone, but she could watch other channels with her sleepover friend. By the time she decided to crash, the two of them decided my movie had been recorded and so they shut off the VCR. I got almost half a movie out of it. So, last evening I paid particular close attention as it played out, uncut, on The Movie Channel. My wife came home after a long and trying day, so we discussed her situation. I glanced at the screen and realized Burt's character had taken the booze from the cabinet and obviously betrayed his AA commitment. My wife said she was exhausted and she wanted to go out for dinner right away. Then she could get her much needed rest. Bottom line, I hope Come Back Little Sheba will be on again real soon. I would love to know the ending, after nearly sixty years.
@edgarblythe,
It's all sort of a Haze(l).
@Ragman,
In the movie she sounds like Hazel, but reminds me of Edith Bunker.
@edgarblythe,
You know she did play Hazel on TV, right?
@Ragman,
Yessir. In fact, channel 39-2 reruns Hazel umpteen times each week around here. Not that I watch it. But, I channel surf and run across it often.
@edgarblythe,
OK. Yeah, I would much rather watch Bewitched episodes. Samantha was far prettier and sexier. Also the plots were silly but entertaining.
@Ragman,
They rerun that and Jeannie on channel 57-4.
@edgarblythe,
Edgar, have you checked Amazon.com? I've purchased movies I just felt I had to have. My favs are Coen bros. films, old comics like Marx bros, laurel & hardy, W.C. Fields, Arsenic & Old Lace, Harvey. The Loved One, the Ladykillers (the original with Herbert Lom). Anyhow that might help you see the whole thing on your own sweet time . Some movies I can see over and over.
The Movie Channel played a Laurel and Hardy silent this morning. They were living like bums and instead of his trademark mustache, Hardy had about a week or two growth of facial hair. They had to try to outrun the Army recruiters, I assume to avoid conscription. They didn't think it necessary to explain that point at that time in history.
I really had to share this:
@edgarblythe,
Too bad that none of them could sing a note, huh?
I would give anything to attend a concert like that.
@edgarblythe,
That's for sure!..me too! I've seen only one ... Judy Collins, but that was about 10 yrs ago. Sadly ... not the same.
Today is Grandparents Day. I only need the knowledge that my grandchildren are safe from harm and have love.
@edgarblythe,
Happy Grandparents Day, Edgar .......
We don't have that here, Mother and Father's Day, that's it... So I will just wish my beautiful Grandmother the same, up above.. Her name (apt) is Hazel.
@FOUND SOUL,
Thanks, FS. Most people don't fuss on this day. Mothers Day is the only such holiday that generates much warmth.
Well I gonna go to the job today. I feel better and just have to caution myself to let the young ones do the heavy stuff. They don't like it, sprig 'em.
Jay P Richardson, son of the Big Bopper, has died. He lived in Katy, unbeknownst to me, just a short hop down the road. Makes me feel a tad older.
