@George,
It was not unexpected. He just never did well after the stroke.

@edgarblythe,
I'm also sorry, Edgar.

When my brother passed a while back, we adhered to his wishes to be immediately cremated...with no service of any kind. We did have a meeting of family and friends about a month later to drink and eat and remember him fondly.

I've asked Nancy to do the same for me when my day comes. I think the "no service" is the much better way to go.

@Frank Apisa,
My brother as well was cremated, with no service. It was actually less traumatic than the funerals I've went to.

@edgarblythe,
I think I had better not participate in this discussion. I might risk breaking the all-time down-thumb record.

@edgarblythe,
I just noticed that sig line, Edgar. Very nice complement. Thank you. And why the gun rights advocates continue to use that argument is beyond me.

@Frank Apisa,
It's one of the best such statements I have seen of late.

Had lots of heavy stuff to move at work yesterday. Didn't bounce back in time to do much around the house after I got home. Plus heavy wind made for hazards, using a ladder and such. Still I did make progress arranging the interior of the storage building, towards making it functional. Maybe today will be better.

I told my wife that when I go, it is okay to dispose of my body any way that's convenient. Likely I will get planted in the VA cemetery.

I have begun sending messages to my representatives, re my thoughts on the issues, on a schedule. That way I won't fail to make my points.

A new branch of the VA hospital system will be opening in Tomball within the year, it seems. I am thinking to get registered there, after it opens, just in case the need arises.

I like the portrayal of Holmes and Watson on the TV show, Elementary. If only I could understand the dialog better. I am blaming the TV, but I have long felt that certain CBS shows are harder to understand than others.

@edgarblythe,
Don't blame the TV. I'm having the same problem. Holmes is soft-spoken, talks fast, and has an accent. Each of these in itself wouldn't necessarily be a problem. But put them all together, and I can't understand what he's saying.

I enjoy the show anyway.

@Frank Apisa,
I agree, Frank. I have never cared for funerals, and I don't want one for myself. After I am gone, if someone remembers me kindly, that would be enough for me.

Personally, I would love my ashes to be spread over my favorite lake. Since Mr. P. wants his cremains to be installed in a niche in the V.A. cemetery, I suppose that I will just go along with him.

@edgarblythe,
I watch almost all television shows these days with the caption feature on. It detracts from the viewing a bit, but I always have the option of re-running the show to get a second look at the action. In any case, I find I often can ignore the captions and watch the action...but the words being there seem to subliminally allow me to understand stuff that might otherwise pass me by.

Nancy was a big Harry Potter movie fan...and the dialogue in those movies were almost incomprehensible without the captions.

Elementary is undoubtedly my favorite network (non-premium) show...by far!

As a young man I spent two years of my life in England and managed to build a life-long ability to follow staccato British delivery. My diminishing hearing has put a bit of a crimp in that.

@Phoenix32890,
Yeah, Phoenix...it is a move that I notice becoming more and more popular. I guess the funeral directors are not crazy about it, but...the world moves on. I expect my ashes to be spread...and have given Nancy an idea of where (several different places) I'd like that to happen. May be a bit of a tussle parceling them out, but she says she is up to the job.

Hope she doesn't have to take it on too soon!

A lady I was told about had her husband's ashes put in an egg-timer, after sieving the bits of bone out I suppose.

She said that the lazy bugger could do some work for a change.

Whatever is cheap and easy in my own case. I have yet to ask my wife how she wants to be disposed of. I guess I ought to find out.

Saturday. Going to go buy groceries, lounge a bit, then work out back a while. Life bees good. Oh. I will likely do income tax tomorrow. Sad

I read about a Mexican restaurant refusing service to Rush Limbaugh. Reason given: racists not served. He launched into a racist rant, but was ejected by security.

Had not heard about that...and not really sure if it is true...but if it is, it is hilarious. Yeah, I know...a bit of hypocrisy in feeling that way, but it is hilarious just the same.
