Punky the dog knows we get up early around here. So, when my wife wants to sleep in on the weekends, after I am already in the living room sipping my coffee, Punky does what she sees as her duty and she crashes her body repeatedly into the bed, until mrs edgarblythe stirs with intent to get up. Then on cool mornings, duty done, Punky goes back to bed.

I always thought I had seen the John Wayne film of Tall in the Saddle, but I picked it up out of the bargain bin and brought it home, to refresh my memory. Turns out, I don't recall a bit of it. It is a western of good humor and high drama and I enjoyed it more than many of Wayne's films. George "Gabby" Hayes played a good role also.

My daughter from Austin is looking to move back to our area very soon. There are two grandchildren I will get to see, anyway.

I have played Angry Birds enough to have learned that it is perseverance that makes for high scores. You could play a game by making identical moves in successive starts too numerous to count, scoring just high to medium, until the game loosens up the way a slot machine does. That repeated dozens of times move suddenly pays off big and you have a very good chance of taking a lead over the competition.

Cursing the storm on the east coast.

I may be the last person left watching the Mentalist. He returned to the roots of the show last night, showing how he met the other characters and how he became a consultant with the CBI.

Today marks thirteen years since my youngest daughter got married. She and hubby have four great children.

In the rooms I am building on the front of the house, I have reserved a cubbyhole for a mirrored enclosure. It will reflect from all sides and virtually every angle. One will be able to walk in and view every ugly inch of one's own body, without straining or asking someone to do it for one. I feel I need it to monitor any changes that ought to be detected early.

Nope, I saw it yesterday. Actually, I was going to ask what you thought of the episode.

It was interesting that it was revealed that he was in a mental institute for some while.

Also, it was Lisbon who got him his start as a consultant at the CBI.

Overall, I thought it was an "okay" show. It gave a bit more background to the character.

One of my favourite shows these days is Once Upon A Time. Have you ever seen it, or seen promos? The show is a lot of fun.

I thought it a decent episode. If this turns out to be the final season, they ought to develop the Red John character more. Two thoughts are in my scheming little mind. I have felt for a long time that the recurring character that is sort of a cult figure could be RJ. But I have been considering lately that he could be one of the regular cast. Don't have a clue which one.

@edgarblythe,
You mean within the CBI??? Not sure who you mean by RJ, too.

The show that I mentioned above - seen it?

@Reyn,
Somebody close to Jane and his people is working with RJ or one is RJ. If my first guess was wrong.
RJ = Red John

I watched the first four or five episodes of Once Upon a Time. Lost interest after that.

New York and New Jersey - The more I think about it the more I think: New Orleans. I doubt it will get that bad. Still, looking on from a distance can magnify or shrink a situation with the reports that come through.

Managed to get the basic framework of my storage shed addition yesterday. By moving certain items in there, it will make my main shed functional, once more.

I hate the air filled tires they put on so many wheeled items these days. The pressure washer, the trash cart and the paint spray machine at work, for instance. And my big wagon that came from The Tractor Store. If anybody knows a way to make those things last longer, I would love to know about it.

@edgarblythe,
I wasn't thinking of that! I thought an abbreviation of a name. Laughing

So, tell me, what other favourite TV shows do you have then? Just wondering if we watch the same ones.

I don't have cable. There are really no shows I genuinely look forward to.

Laughing Laughing You realise, Edgar, you contradicted yourself in that last statement.

But I know what you mean. These days, my wife and I only look forward to a handful of shows that we like to watch.

Basic cable TV here is getting to be a real luxury item, and with the basic, there's a lot of stuff we don't even care about, but it comes as a package.

We are seriously thinking of dumping our cable TV (and just keeping our cable internet) in March 2014. That's when our special 3 year price freeze ends, and I suspect it will be so much more expensive then.

Not sure we'll do anything TV-wise past then, other than borrow free DVD's from our local library.

I have looked into Netflix here in Canada (a lot different than it is in the U.S.), but I fear the bandwidth to use the service will dramatically up the cost of my internet service. So, I would not be any further ahead.

We really enjoy using our internet service, so we wouldn't give that up.

The Mentalist, if it suddenly ended, would not spoil my day. That's the mark of a true favorite. They could cancel every current series and I would not get that upset. Years back, I would mark the days until favorite shows aired. As a kid, it was mostly situation comedies, such as THe Life of Riley and The Great Gildersleeve. Or suspense shows, including The Whistler and Suspense. Later, it was Disneyland, then Ed Sullivan. Next, many westerns, including Have Gun Will Travel, Cheyenne and Maverick. Alfred Hitchcock and Twilight Zone. Peter Gunne. Then All in the Family and M*A*S*H*. The Cosby show. My all time favorite was Seinfeld, until I watched the reruns a thousand times and wore out my watcher. As a kid, books, movies and radio were all I had to make life bearable. That need to be distracted carried over, through most of my adult life. Lately, I have gotten the most pleasure out of rediscovering old movies. Many of which are new to me, because I had to miss so many.

Trying to read something good in the storm called Sandy. There is nothing I can say. That it was not more devastating is no consolation for those who lost everything. 50 lives were ended, in the US. Not to mention the tragedy that occurred elsewhere, particularly Haiti.

My storage shed extension has taken shape. I need to roof and side it, hopefully this weekend or next.

Salvador Dali would have made a neat graffiti artist. Drivers seeing melted buildings and the like would be checking their smokes for extra additives.

Or Michelangelo as a sky-writing pilot. Not just Christians would see God across the dome of sky-

i know you've heard of pixie dust
this stuff will make you fly
the walls have turned to musk
swarm hoards fill the sky

so now we are off again
unto that fairy land
where men are real gods
and tear ducts are dammed

a floating wish cried god is me
as it swam through eternity
it died upon a cross with me
in a barren ash-white sea

don't recall the rest of how it goes - a product of listening to psychedelic and other 60s music, not being an addict -

I watched The African Queen last night. I am a fan of the actors, besides admiring the story.

I noticed last night you cannot stop the - what is it? NSFW? - posts from appearing without also activating the dirty word filter. That stinks. I will have to read asterisks for red blooded American swear words.

Somehow we inherited piles of suckers and gummy bears from Halloween. And we didn't give out treats. I don't want them. In my opinion, the trash would be a fitting end to them. Don't know what my wife will do. I don't think she wants any.

Boy born with no brain dies. He was getting pretty big by the time it happened. I wonder how he will get on in Heaven? No disrespect intended to the family, of course.

I don't follow basketball closely. The new Rockets player has my attention, however.

There is nothing like an election to get a government active in such a thing as storm relief. It has long appeared to me that government always offers to help the victims of disaster and initially is useful to many. But they spend lots of time fending off aid requests, until the victim gives up asking.
