I was pulling poison ivy roots out of the ground on Friday or Saturday. I immediately washed my hands off with soap. Some itchy bumps appeared on my wrists a few days later. It took a few applications of H3O to rid myself of them. This morning a new itchy bump has broken out on my right forefinger. I must put the liquid on it before I go to work. Likely it will require another application after I get home today. Since I began treating poison ivy this way I have not had full blown rashes like I used to have. When I was a schoolboy, I tangled with poison oak regularly. It was so bad, I often could not recall being nearer than ten feet to the plants, yet developed rashes severe enough to keep me out of school. Poison ivy seems somewhat milder than poison oak, but I am definitely allergic to it.

A young woman is going on trial today for the murder of one child among four. She operated a daycare center all by herself. She left the children alone, after setting a pot of oil to heat on a stove. While she shopped at Target, the oil caught fire. One of the parents was quoted on the news this morning as calling for the death penalty. Local commentators are not sparing the emotions when reporting the story. It's an ordeal just to follow these events.

The elderly friend of mine that I reported as moving to a senior care facility was still driving her Toyota pick up when she decided to move. She told me yesterday she had not expected that her children would make her sell it, but the truck is gone. I hope her family knows what they are doing. Sometimes in these cases the elderly begin to feel like prisoners and it saps the will to live right out of them. Usually, when the kids do that to a mother, they divide up the spoils, including the mother's money, which always makes me wonder how much motive is greed, rather than beneficent concern.

@edgarblythe,
I just realised that you stopped numbering your "I thinks" recently. Good for you! I presume this means you will continue?

Hmm, I see you're not going to take me up on my idea for FB; that is putting you're non-political thoughts there? Too bad, as I think (haha!) it would be a good one. Wink

I have been putting a few of my observations on facebook. The audience for such is different than on a2k, even though many of my a2k friends are on facebook. So I am very selective.

Fall is expected to get here tomorrow. I was about to work up a sweat here before the keyboard before I turned on the ceiling fan. Bring it on.

Started putting up the framework for my backyard shed expansion yesterday. I may or may not add to it this afternoon. I have been saving some corrugated iron, or is it tin, for this for a long time.

Look for a kiddie film about a talking whale in the near future. The whale currently trying to mimic human speech is sure to inspire some folks with a lot of unused film.

When I was much younger, the dogs I and my family kept were not fed special diets. They never got vaccinated. They rarely had fleas. If they did have some, it was easily cured. Now that you can't make a move without consulting a vet, my dogs have all sorts of problems. Not sure how to divide blame between environment, diet and over treating them.

We're into our rainy season here, with just little bits of respite once in a while.

It's typical weather for us.

When's the first day of fall?

Oh, and I meant to ask you if you enjoyed the last episode of Vegas?

I thought it was pretty good, with the plans of expansion of the other casino, and all.

I think the show captures the times fairly well.

I forgot Vegas was on until it was too late to watch.
We are officially in fall, but the weather does not give us that consideration, except on occasional whim.

I voted for the Democrats and the Green Party in lesser offices days ago. Barring a sudden shakeup, I firmly believe the president will get re-elected. After the polling ends, we must set forth to reform Mr Obama in many areas of endeavor. He is like a child of clay who must be molded into a statesman.

The storm predicted to hit the east coast looks to be a severe one. I wish for my friends to keep safe.

One reason I use Paypal for online transactions is to keep from providing credit card information. More and more, dealers expect Paypal customers to provide credit card information as well. I prefer to forego the transaction in these cases. After all, if I can't pay through Paypal alone, why do I need Paypal at all?

It is very cool, here, but not cold. I am wishing the storm away for the east coast, but nothing will help, except advance preparation. Nature plays at times the same way a child constructs an edifice merely to destroy it.

I had to quit watching local news for the week. As the trial of the woman who carelessly caused the deaths of four toddlers advances, the programs endlessly play on the horror of that day and the anguish of the mothers. Once is enough to imprint it on my mind, for always. Twice and more is to break down any internal defense I may have to preserve sanity.

We have not seen gus on the boards lately. I have a feeling he occasionally dips in to see what is going on. He knows how many members adore him. Still chasing that elusive ostrich, eh, Gus?

Saw an episode of Steve McQueen's Bounty Hunter last night. The outlaw brothers in the story were played by the actors who portrayed Johnny Yuma and Little Joe Cartwright. I love picking out favorite actors before they became known.

@edgarblythe,
Johnny Yuma = Nick Adams, I seem to recall.

@Ragman,
An episode of Johnny Yuma is on the TV now. They have blocked the theme song, I guess, for copyright reasons.

@edgarblythe,
I'd have thought that song was public domain by now. Hell, that was early '60s, if I recall.

OMG, Johnny Cash sang the theme song!

@Ragman,
Royalties. I just realized they would pay a pretty good sum. The theme song was intended for Elvis Presley, but Adams insisted they get Johnny Cash, whom he knew, at least slightly.

@edgarblythe,
According to the trivia on IMDB, apparently Leonard Nimoy appeared on one episode.

@Ragman,
I have never seen many complete episodes, because we always go to the grocery store about now. By the time I get home they are into episodes of Will Sonnett.

@edgarblythe,
A while back, you mentioned interest in a new show called "Elementary".

Have you been watching it at all? I was all prepared to hate it, but have been pleasantly surprised. It is actually fairly well done, with some good plot twists at the end.

Also, it's quirky and different, which I like.

@Reyn,
I tried it the first episode, but the sound seemed muted and I could not follow the dialog. So I gave up.

Edgar, So I shouldn't worry about my hearing? I had the same problem with the sound. I turned up the volume and watched. It's not great, but not bad.

@Roberta,
I could have turned the volume much louder and understood it, but, mrs edgarblythe would have complained the noise was unbearable. She can't hear very much, until I turn the TV loud and then she becomes very sensitive. I don't question it, but see no need to antagonize her. - She wears some very expensive hearing aids to work, but she puts them away around the house.

The volume output can vary from station to station I've noticed, so I wouldn't worry about going deaf.

It also depends if you're using a digital box or not, too.

Not in this case, but programming from England I've noticed sometimes needs to be cranked up.

For my own tastes, I did feel that Elementary isn't a sterling show, but is "reasonable" entertainment.
