Can anyone access New Questions without trying half a dozen times?

The "New Topics" page is never going to work well. It has a very inefficient query to the database (effectively selecting every topic in the whole database) and is a good example of the kind of problem I am eliminating through the rewrite.

So no matter how well I get the site to run in the meantime that page won't be fast and many times won't work at all.

In fact I should take it down as hits to that page hurt the whole site.

Oh.

I note...or it appears to me that I note...that clicking refresh on an open New Posts page appears to be faster, and to result in less critical errors, than clicking on "new posts".

If that is not illusory, is it also less burden on the site?

So, you are talking "New Posts"? Not new questions or new topics if that is correct.

Looks like I got that wrong. You are talking "New Topics", not new posts. Confused

The "New Topics" link, meanwhile, is on the upper left side of the screen, under "Your Posts" and "Your Topics."

I pretty much never use it -- not sure if Noddy's "new questions" referred to "New Topics" or "New Posts." I suspect the latter, though Craven's info is still good to have.

I meant "New Topics", but even when I address the subject by the proper name with due reverence, I'm resigned to access being a ponderous process.

My goof, sorry - in all this time, I've never checked New Topics. (Think of the trouble I've saved the site!)

Mea culpa. I, too, thought the subject was 'New Posts', not 'New Topics', inasmuch as I'm not sure whether I've ever clicked on the topics thingy.

Old is okay, no problems with that. With age comes wisdom. I am already getting older and still waiting on that wisdom to hit me. Confused

The other night my husband asked me why there was a pile of hair by the computer- it was mine. I was literally pulling it out while waiting for A2K to get over it's various critical errors, luckily I have a lot of hair. I sooo look forward to the new and improved A2K.

I expect a Congressional Investigation and a raid from PETA to deal with Hamsters on Steroids.

Reporting in on A2K performance:

It's very iffy right now, alternating from critical messages (4 so far) & speediness. On & off, on & off.

same here in canada .
keep in mind that we are living in the colonies  .

But at least she's not your queen, hamburger! Some of us are stubbornly backward!

I now take great pleasure in reporting, after a 3 day absence, that A2K is very speedy indeed!

May it remain so! (touching wood)

i'm honoured to report that canada is "a democracy" but also a "constitutional monarchy" Rolling Eyes .
apparently it costs each canadian $1.10 per year to maintain the "constitutional monarchy" - a cup of coffee .
while that's not much money for each individual , that money in total surely could do a lot of good helping people in the underdeveloped world .
but at least we get to watch the "changing of the guard" at paliament hill in ottawa for free during the sommer Laughing - we've actually gone to see it , even though we are not monarchists - it's just good outdoor theatre !

almost forgot : a2k seems to be running fine this saturday morning .
i'm sure her majesty will be pleased to hear it .

Well, fancy that, hamburger! Surprised

I was thinking you lot were much more advanced than that!

So we're not the only backward souls, then?

Oh yes another lovely day of chaos...this has been 3 days now of Hellish performance of this site.

Log in againa nd again and again and after every post and error messages galore. This is not worth the time and effort. If this place cannot or will not perform then what reason do I even have to be here? I come here for some level of enjoymnet and relaxation and all that I have had for the last several weeks has been continued breakdowns.
