the credit card doesnt have to be linked to paypal does it to make a donation?
Not if you have money in your PayPal account... otherwise yes.

Here, you can link your bank account(s) as well.

I would imagine that is still a registered email with A2K so I doubt if it makes any difference. Worse case scenario, PayPal alerts you that it didn't go through. Just checked Thomas. That's where mine went automatically, so your good.

Here too, but I think you have to confirm it first or there's a waiting period between the loading and the paying. With CC registered or cash in the account, it's instant.

It's rather instant here: did it yesterday, today's noted on my bank account.

Used it yesterday, too, to buy something on ebay. Just got the confirmational email that the money arrived (Paypal >bank account) and the parcel has been posted .... from Belgium.

Wednesday morning (Oz time):

Reporting in on A2K performance:

It's very iffy right now, alternating from critical messages (4 so far) & speediness. On & off, on & off.

Can anyone access New Questions without trying half a dozen times?

There are selldom any "new" questions (except for "uananswered"). A new response is yanked seconds after being posted in the "new posts" section.

BTW, the check is in the (e)mail.

Merry Andrew--

Now look, Virginia, there are so New Questions. Sure as the birds fly north in the spring, someone wants to know about Husbands & Porn and Whether God Exists and all about the Duck Boats.

Even without the Chinese Students, there are New Questions.

Noddy, when it works it all works, when it doesn't, it doesn't. I was just able to access new topics on the first try, but then the response time is working well now across the boards. When I saw your question here last night I couldn't access much of anything.

I am resigned to the fact, that for the moment, the only consistent thing about A2K's performance is its inconsistency.

The "New Topics" page is never going to work well. It has a very inefficient query to the database (effectively selecting every topic in the whole database) and is a good example of the kind of problem I am eliminating through the rewrite.

So no matter how well I get the site to run in the meantime that page won't be fast and many times won't work at all.

In fact I should take it down as hits to that page hurt the whole site.

I hadn't understood that before, Craven. All of us who use New Posts may have been causing some of this trouble.

I've just switched my desktop icon to accessing "your posts" - I presume that's better - or should I (we) be going to HOME and then different forums?

So, you are talking "New Posts"? Not new questions or new topics if that is correct.
