@H2O MAN,
But even if it was true, I don't care, we as individuals should have some rights left. Have the Democrats ever heard of the tyranny of the majority? The writers of the constitution and Bill of Rights designed it to protect the individual from the tyranny of the majority. Such as guaranteed by the ninth and tenth Amendments.

Support for Health Care Plan Falls to New Low
Monday, November 23, 2009 Email to a Friend ShareThis.Advertisement
Just 38% of voters now favor the health care plan proposed by President Obama and congressional Democrats. That’s the lowest level of support measured for the plan in nearly two dozen tracking polls conducted since June.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 56% now oppose the plan.

Half the survey was conducted before the Senate voted late Saturday to begin debate on its version of the legislation. Support for the plan was slightly lower in the half of the survey conducted after the Senate vote.

Prior to this, support for the plan had never fallen below 41%. Last week, support for the plan was at 47%. Two weeks ago, the effort was supported by 45% of voters.

Intensity remains stronger among those who oppose the push to change the nation’s health care system: 21% Strongly Favor the plan while 43% are Strongly Opposed.

I know Cyclo will disagree with me, but there's a very good article in today's WSJ about the "Long Term Care Bomb" in the current health bill. It's now known as the "Community Living Assistance Services and Supports Act, which is another entitlement that provides $50/day towards home or institutional care with equipment and supplies, or home improvements to assist the daily living of those enrolled.

Both the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and CBO say that parts of the program is subject to "considerable financial risk." The reason is simple; adding more entitlements without the revenue in support of it will end up costing much more for this "added" benefit.

Both the House and Senate bills claim the the premiums calculated to cover benefits without government subsidies will work over 75 years.

They have failed to consider the simple facts about who will enroll will be those who need it most, and it will be more expensive to cover those who buy insurance, and will have to charge more than private insurance to cover those costs over private insurance who have calculated long-term needs. It would also discourage healthy individuals from buying this insurance because of its high premium cost.

This report was prepared by Mr Harrington, a professor of health care management and insurance and risk management at the University of PA's Wharton School.

@cicerone imposter,
Good reasoning, but I'm thinking the whole shebang is going to be mandatory. Reasoning will be irrelevant. There is no other way any form of universal health care is going to work.

So, no public option. No medicare for 55-66 year olds. Nothing to reduce costs.

I say that we have to remove the mandate from this bill otherwise I cannot support it. As much as I want the regulatory changes made into law, I can't support the mandate without something to drive down costs.

@maporsche,
What you gotta do is hope that mandatory insurance will eliminate the ones who receive expensive treatment and don't even pretend to pay.

Now for what I really expect; there are going to be many levels of acceptable insurance and the lowest ones will only be bought to satisfy the law. Many of those forced into them are going to be crushed, even by the lowest premiums. They better hope they don't get sick or injured, too. The copays and deductables are going to eat them alive. Those are only my own opinions.

That is pretty dopey. Senators are covered under the same contributory plan as are all other federal employees.

Yeah, it's Obama dopey.

Barack Obama campaigned that the American Citizens should
get health coverage “at least as good as we in the Senate have.”

This is the first glimmer of common sense displayed by liberals in years.

@roger,
You probably have it pretty close to the chest; most don't still understand what the mandatory health insurance plans will look like.

Congress failed to attack cost savings first, and universal coverage second; they essentially did everything ass-backwards.
