@Setanta,
In northern New England the four seasons are Early Winter, Mid-winter, Late Winter and Next Winter.

@Lustig Andrei,
Exactly why I moved to Chicago. Winters are still harsh but we have 4 regular seasons of approximately 3 months each.

A Final (?) Bit Of Winter...hits Rockhead in KS this evening, and then Soz in Columbus and perhaps Farmerman in western PA.

@jespah,
My niece and her husband came east from Portland earlier in the week for a marathon in Va Beach. It was cold and windy but the rain held off. Part of their 50x50 campaign: marathons in all 50 states by the age of 50. 7 more to go. They should, barring injuries, finish next year with NYC at the ages of 47.

@realjohnboy,
That's neat, good luck to them.

(I remember snow in Chicago on an Easter in April, probably around '54 or '55.)

It started to snow here at 3 PM. Two inches so far. The announcer at my NPR station commented that the weather forecasts have been all over the place, ranging from 1-3 inches to 5-8 inches depending on whether the storm crosses the mountains. I am on the east side. We were supposed to get less but the storm is tracking slightly south and east, which does not bode well. It will probably change to sleet come morning.
My final PT session will probably get postponed...again...for the 3rd time running. My therapist lives even further up in the mountains. I've been eager to show off my new leg brace. Maybe by Memorial Day.

@Region Philbis,
positively balmy (or barmy..as you like!)

Bloody lovely here on the coast just south of Sydney - with a 4-day weekend!

@Region Philbis,
They've told us the same thing here in Albuquerque. Meanwhile, we have a huge rain,ice and snow storm hitting here tomorrow and the next several days with temps not getting much above freezing during the day and down into the 20's at night.

Warmer, my arse.

So far, much less rain here in Hawaii than would be "normal" during the winter months.
