Went to the local dollar store yesterday, but couldn't find any films; just music discs.

Will try Target later today.

@Phoenix32890,
great series, the valet was in another pretty good period piece (1890's) called Larkrise to Candleford, the series was based on a three books written about a young girls life after she leaves her small village to work for her mothers cousin in a nearby towns post office, the valet from Downton plays the young girls father

he also played a great bad guy, an american who lives in England and runs a casino in 1960's Britain, in an episode of a series called Inspector George Gently

have watched 10 of the 12 Miss Marple made for tv movies (Britain) starring Joan Hickson, they are thought to be the best adaptations of the novels to film, quite enjoying them

I went to Target in the rain today, but couldn't find House of Wax. Instead, I found two $2 discs; the first one is called "World War II Collector's Set," and the second is "The Civil War, A Nation Divided." Those two should be worth a few hours of "entertainment" before I hit the zzz's for several nights.

Watched Guy Maddin's surrealistic autobiographical documentary, My Winnepeg. Okay, the filmmakers calling it a documentary is an out and out bullsh!t lie.

Actors are used to reenact autobiographical many of the film's passages. Many of the stated facts are far too questionable. Tossed off facts on competing taxi companies, the make up of the main and back alley streets, its notable record breaking one tree park, the size of its most notable masonic temple? The existence of a Winnepeg produced and sited television show, Ledge Man, a show where the main character threatens to jump off his apartment building ledge for every episode for several decades?

Are Winnepeggers always lost? Always sleepwalking? Guy Maddin thinks so.

Winnepeg isn't the heart of the heart of North America, though the filmmaker likes to point that geographical coincidence out time and again. But it's a prison for those living behind the bars of steeled sentimentality.

On one hand, Guy Maddin, the narrator, advocates the exodus from Winnipeg because the dangers of living an oversentimental life but on the other hand, he's obsessed over the loss of many Winnipeg past institutions (its hockey arena for one).

Still, this experimental film has its tragic charms. Part anxiety induced nightmare, part fever dream. This film DOESN'T make me ever want to visit Winnepeg ever [PERIOD!] Only watch it if you have the patience and the tolerance for stepping far outside the traditional reels of cinema. You might actually learn what it means to be a Winnipegger.

Watched a movie yesterday called "The Way" starring Martin Sheen and
directed by his son Emilio Estevez. A wonderful film, sad but uplifting
with great performances from the four main characters.
Couldn't recommend it enough.

@tsarstepan,
Interesting reaction.

Winnipeg is one of the only places I've seriously considered moving to. Why? friendliest people I've ever met in my life.

Went to the "Flicks" tonight, seen the new Liam Neeson
movie "Unknown". Good movie, fast paced and fair plot.
Nice little twist, which I didn't figure out as early as I probably
should have, maybe because I was tired or maybe I just didn't
have time because I was engrossed in the movie?. Neeson is
his usual powerhouse self and makes the movie work.
Good movie, definitely worth seeing.

I watched "London Boulevard" earlier. Its the story of a man newly released from prison who falls in love with
a reclusive young movie star and finds himself in a duel with a vicious gangster.
Well I for one thought it was excellent. I'd nearly given up on Colin Farrell but he has well and truly redeemed
himself here. Ray Winstone was his usual menacing self, in fact great script and superb acting all round. A good
ol' British gangster movie. Don't miss.

Watched Hotel Rwanda last night with Don Cheadle, Sophie Okonedo, and Nick Nolte. I was really impressed with Nick Nolte's performance in this movie, but more importantly, the movie was excellent based on a true story about a hotel manager who saves over 1,200 people from savage massacre of over one million during the 1994 conflict in that country.

It also goes to show that the US, the British, and most of Europe do not care for Africans.

The following article was taken from WorldAtlas.

Quote:
The Tutsi rebels defeated the Hutu regime and ended the killing in July 1994, but approximately 2 million Hutu refugees - many fearing Tutsi retribution - fled to neighboring Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda, and the former Zaire. Since then, most of the refugees have returned to Rwanda, but several thousand remain in neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Paul Kagame became President of Rwanda in March 2000. In August of 2003, he won a landslide victory in the first national elections since his government took power in 1994. Under Kagame’s leadership, the country has made a remarkable recovery and is now considered to be a model for developing countries.

Just saw "Black Swan". Natalie Portman is magnificent. The music is wonderful, and the supporting players do a great job. This is a "must see".
