I don't watch Americanised versions of BBC, or any other British shows. There's enough original drama/comedy not to bother with rehashed versions of things I've already seen. I didn't watch the American Life On Mars either.

Up to you, but as I alluded to, and am now saying directly, it's not a rehashed verison.

The similaries are very superficial even at first, and completely disappear shortly thereafter.

I think the most similar thing is that it's got the same name.

Plus, I enjoy Kevin Spacey so much I'd watch something just because of him.

Then, there's my object of desire, Doug Stamper.

@chai2,
I wouldn't enjoy it, I'd spend all my time comparing it to the original. I'll happily watch original American drama, but not copies, and despite your assurances it's doesn't sound that original.

I had a similar conversation with Frank Apisa about Life on Mars.

This brings to mind Michael McKean. He was so funny as Lenny in Laverne and Shirley and David St. Hubbins in This is Spinal Tap, but is so detestable as Chuck McGill in Better Call Saul.

He really was! Until he went up in smoke.

Or did he? (Que the theme for the Twilight Zone)

@glitterbag,
I really think that was it for Chuck. I think I saw something about him being involved in another upcoming show or movie or something.

@snood,
I never understood why people got so wrapped up in soap operas or shows like Dallas, just didn't hold my interest, couldn't watch. But then we found Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul and I've become a fiend like an old gal at Bingo. Love it. Got so involved practically hissed when Chuck treated Jimmy badly, I know it's a just a tv show but holy crap, what a ride.

Caught Tombstone on AMC, probably the 11 th time I've seen it. Loved Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday, I can almost speak his lines along with him. "Cowboy: I have lots of friends"....."Doc Holliday.......paused....then: I don't".

The British "House of Cards" is one marvelous show. It is one of my all time favorites. Some time back, I attempted to watch the American version, but turned it off after a couple of episodes. No comparison.

@Phoenix32890,
There are some brilliant original American dramas, like Twin Peaks, Breaking Bad, The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire. We don't copy shows, I don't think any other country does unless there's a language issue. Peaky Blinders was billed as the British Boardwalk Empire, but it's completely different Tom Shelby is not a British Knucky Thompson, he's completely different, the only similarity is that they're both about post WW1 criminal gangs.

Just finished watching Allied with Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard. WW2 espionage and war drama. Great action, great romance, great drama. Pitt has grown into a fine actor, and I've loved Cotillard since the first time I saw her in Public Enemy as Dillinger's woman.

@izzythepush,
Loved Boardwalk Empire. Irish American gangs were very powerful and brutal.....I'm not saying I admire their thug culture, but it was one of the most authentic depictions of the culture of that time. The other thing I liked was the way they portrayed the life style and attitudes of the Irish. They didn't pretty it up with Irish tenors, freaking leprechauns or other romantic notions of how adorable the Irish American were while marching around with shamrocks in their teeth. Of course, this was a story about Irish criminals, not the usual experience of most Irish Americans.....but entertaining as hell......at least for us second generation Irish American kids.

@izzythepush,
I thought it was violence pornography. I thought it was exploitative and corny. Brilliant? Maybe the costume colors.

Catfight, a commentary on the excesses of both libertarian and liberal society in America with a cynical dig at the country's health care industry where even the apparently sympathetic character is, at the end, hilariously guilty of shadenfreude.

@snood,
It's reimagined history as catharsis much like Tarantino's other movie, Inglourious Basterds.

@snood,
I really enjoyed it. I like revenge movies, and there were some quirky bits too like when the nascent KKK started bitching about the eyeholes in the bags.

@chai2,
Very few, if any - but that really doesn't say anything. I made the observation that a particular movie is disgusting in my opinion and not "brilliant", as someone else described it. I don't think it serves any purpose to point out that all his other movies are disgusting in the same way.

To each their own - and I know many, including professional critics, see it that way. But there is dissenting opinion about Tarentino's "art". I just happen to side with the dissent. Hope that's okay.

And you have a lot of company with millions who appreciate Tarentino. Let's just chalk this up to a difference in tastes.

If Ed Sheeran's cameo is the biggest problem people can find with the Game of Thrones premiere, I question whether they really watched it. Slow paced introductory episode yet it's Season 7. I'd almost forgotten there was a throne and dragons. Thanks for the reminder.
