Sofia, Homies? I'll buy that. Yes, brave people on your list. As for Joan of Arc? Well, let us know what you decide.

Osso, I wonder if your lost messages are communicating with my lost messages out there in cyberspace.

jjorge, Thanks for the tip. An excellent idea. I'm a ten-finger typist, but it's still painful to lose a longie.

Roberta, most threads die slow deaths after a week, but yours has only gotten better. It's good to be back after a short absence.
If I promise to clean up, may I attend all the dinners? Each sounds like a dream.
Now to start thinking up another list.

Sofia, if you're truly interested in Joan of Arc, may I be so bold as to invite you (and everyone else here) to take a look at this thread?

Merry Andrew-- Thanks so much!
There was a lot of good information there, and a great piece of writing by Setanta.

I judge her well. She refused to go with the status quo-- She practically dies for refusing to dress 'like a woman' and recite a prayer on demand. That is the strongest act of bravery, to me--she died for principle. Whether or not she was schizophrenic or shell-shocked as a vet from war, or heard voices of angels --she led men into battle and helped them reach down and find a set!!!

Looking forward to what she has to say at dinner! I'm sure Margaret Sanger, Molly, and William will dazzle me with their non-conformist stories, too!

Again, thanks, MA! Good links there, as well.

Dys--
Love your list.
Rasputin--Great choice!
Any specific reason for Herod? That one interests me.

dys, Marcel Marceau and Harpo? Honk, honk. This is a dinner for the ages. I'm curious about all your guests, but I'm especially curious about why you picked Adolph Menjou. Unless your adolph monjeau is not the AM I'm thinking of. Old actor with wide lapels?

diane, Waiting for your list. What's gonna happen to your diet if you attend all these dinners? Your mind will be enriched, and your behind will be bigger.

Count on me for bringing a "red herring" criticism into the conversation, or should I say "gossip" (no I definitely should NOT, but I did);

I think the quantitative parameter of your dinner party is flawed.
There is no way with "ten" fascinating guests at a dinner party that anyone would get even the tiniest fraction of a chance to converse with even a small sampling.

Oh, it's only hypothetical? SILLY ME! Rolling Eyes

Maybe it would be better to take one at a time, and "grill 'em" (figuratively speaking)!
Hmmm, "ten" dinner parties........I think I'm on to something!

Good point, but in my case, I wasn't planning on doing much talking ;-)

Bo, The original purpose of the dinner party idea was to get my ESL students to talk. (I think I mention that in my first post.) Things have gotten well beyond that here--and are much loosier goosier than they were at the beginning. So have one dinner party with ten guests or ten parties with one guest each. Just so long as you let us know the guest lists.

Fact is, Bo, you're right. Dinner with ten people doesn't allow for really good conversation. However, I think that the group dynamic needs to be taken into account. And someone said he wanted Attila the Hun, Genghis Kahn, and Hitler on his guest list, the premise being that Attila and Genghis would take care of Hitler. Would that person want a one-on-one dinner with Hitler?

I have an idea, although it may have been put forth earlier in the discussion. To wit, split the 10 between 5 socially-laudable individuals, and 5 who are notorious, but clearly beyond the pale. It would be interesting if there were two or three pairs of such individuals in the same general field. For instance, a top of his game psychopath or outlaw (legally speaking) paired with a similar world-class psychiatrist or law expert. Now, I should think that would make for interesting conversation where most of the 10 were completely content to just listen.
