For:
Clinton
Obama
Edwards
Kerry
Gore
list may be expanded or reduced in the future
Against:
McCain
Powell
virtually any other Republican
I don't rule out voting Green. Depends what happens. Not that a Texan's Green vote would make a dent.
Oof, I don't know. I'll fight like a dog to get a preferred candidate the nomination, but after that I'd be really hard-pressed to vote anything but Democrat, even if I had to hold my nose. I'll say that I fervently, fervently hope that I won't have to vote for Hillary or Kerry. Gore would also be "ugh, why is he the candidate?!" but I'd feel somewhat better voting for him. Edwards is next up on the scale ("Breck Girl is the best they could do??"), but there are things I like about him and he has less baggage than the others.
Of your list, and I know this is no surprise, Obama is the only one I'd happily vote for (and would that ever be a happy vote...!)
I also like Bill Richardson and am interested in Tom Vilsack.
There are things I like about McCain but I can't imagine voting for him. I thought I would for a while but have become convinced that he talks a moderate talk but is really straight conservative Republican. He's a renegade when it's convenient and then rolls over when it's no longer convenient.
I really doubt Powell would run. I like him better than McCain, but he'd have to prove that he would break out of his good Army man/ yes man mold and really speak his mind and go his own way.
Thanks. I expect to be savaged for my choices. Just wanted to get the feel for what other members want.
The person on the potential president list that I most respect is Russ Fiengold. Sadly he has just taken himself off this list.
Richardson is on his way to making my very happy list.
On my happy list are Vilsack, Gore, Obabma and Edwards.
I don't hate Kerry, but I think he would be a political disaster (again). Fortunately I think he is a no go.
I will do whatever I can to Keep Hillary from getting the nomination. If she gets it in spite of my efforts I will probably hold my nose and vote for her anyway (she is still better than any Republican).
I don't think Powell is even considering a run is he? He would make an interesting candidate especially since it would force him to air his true feelings about what has happened in the past 6 years.
Vilsack? Really? I guess the best thing I can say about him is that he got Iowa through the Bush tax cuts better than most states. It wasn't easy and as a result (along with having a statehouse full of Repubs), he wasn't really able to address the things he wanted to address. He is the darkest of dark horses.
Hey Swimpy, when I was writing the above I remembered I'd wanted to ask you what you thought of him. I don't know much yet, am interested mostly because he's one of the few relatively new faces. Way too much baggage amongst the current front-runners.
I just did some reading on Vilsack. You all can take him off my happy list (I guess I need a blahh list to put people on). I should have read before posting.
Vilsack's a moderate. I don't know what he's planning to run on. He hasn't really done anything to brag about. I think he's positioning himself for vice president.
I just compiled a list off the top of my head, without researching anybody. I put Kerry, because I like him, but he is on the "ridicule every statement he makes, minimize his good points" list of the media, so he is in fact unelectable. I don't think Powell could run now, but I included him because so many Dems have said in the past they could vote for him. During the campaign, Edwards gave off (to me) a very soft personality, one I would reluctantly vote for.
Put out as many candidates as possible so the Republicans cannot target and destroy him/her. The Democrats need to moderate their own critiques about various Democratic candidates as it could supply ammunition to the Republicans. Gore was the very essence of a pit bull within Democratic opponents but a pussy cat with Republican opponents. Why is that? Gore's charges against Democratis opponents were such that they provided great ammunition to George Bush I against his Democratic opponent Dukaikis(?) with the Willie Horton case.
From what I know at this point, I would put Biden and Richardson at the top of my good list, with Edwards third.
No Good would have to be Gore, Kerry and Lieberman.
I don't view Lieberman as a viable candidate. Of course, I thought the same about GW Bush.
Brian Schweitzer might make for an interesting candidate for the Dems, but I believe he would have no such aspirations.
There really isn't much to choose from.
I think I would take Howard Dean over any choice that Edgar listed, but, then again, he's not running.

Is he still alive?
I couldn't tell the last time I saw him.
I like Dean, but I don't expect him to run.
