"There is positive and negative news coming out of Iraq. If you are only interested in the negative news, you might want to stop and consider why."

Oh please! I'm glad you're thrilled about the good stuff in Iraq. Many Americans are still maimed or dead. It doesn't equal out.
Different priorities, I guess.

You might want to think about why your memory is so selective.

My memory is not selective. I asked you whether you had shared any, and you dodged the question, which did suggest to me that you hadn't shared any. So, I'll ask you again to kindly point me to just one, thanks.

How many thousands died during WWII. Are you arguing that my priorities are somehow flawed if I consider their sacrifice as something positive in light of what was achieved?

Of course I'm "thrilled about the good stuff in Iraq". I'm also concerned about the "bad stuff". The point is, I'm taking it all in, where others seem to be filtering their consideration of the news based on their own partisan bias. I think that's a bad idea. Maybe you don't.

Scrat, the following are some of my posts under my own "new topics." It would be an impossible task to find and list my posts under the topics posted by other A2Kers so they are not included even though they are numerous. I included only my posts for only 1-1/2 months, the month of March and April to date. They include items by pro-Bush advocates and neutral general information items.

Nah, Scrat. I just can't. I'm glad that some good might come of this, but i'd still prefer we weren't there, and i won't defend this war just because it might do some good for iraqis. If we were in Afghanistan, I'd be crowing right alongside you.
(I know we ARE there too, but our focus should have stayed there)! This iraq war was forced on us by shoving fear down American's throats and backing it up with lies. Iraq can become the 51st state and it's people patriotic Americans, but it doesn't change that fact. The end doesn't justify the means. War should be a last resort.

Scrat, I think it probably applies to everyone.

Now if only McGentrix and others of similar ideology would follow the example by considering other points of view worthy of interest and validity.

Or perhaps you could expand your point of view to include the possibility that they already do, and just come away with a different take on things than do you.

"The Jesus Factor" asks what's behind the president's religious beliefs.

Godly intervention

"The Jesus Factor," a new Frontline documentary that premieres tonight on PBS stations across the country (check local listings for times and stations), helps to answer a question I've been asking since George W. Bush first took office. Not "Why, oh God, why?" (I reserve that one for my more private devotional moments), but, what does our president actually believe? Between his carefully scripted press conferences, his retinue of handlers, and his relatively short career in public service, George W. Bush has remained something of an ideological cipher, even as he executes policies that take our country further and further to the right. This one-hour program limits its scope to the president's personal religious convictions, asking: How much of his vaunted Christian faith springs from genuine conviction, and how much is politically expedient lip service? And more important, how has W.'s belief system affected his administration's policy decisions?

Much of this documentary was shot in Midland, Texas, tracing the younger Bush's journey from AA-style "self-help Methodist" to born-again evangelical.

I wonder why the Mountie quotes himself? Perhaps incipient senility? I am somewhat comforted to think that a contemporary's mind is deteriorating more rapidly than my own, about which my concerns have grown lately.

Oh goodie, more attacks on the President's religion! I really wish he were a Jew. I guarantee you that none of this crap would be happening then.

And please don't whine to me about "separation of church and state", because if you think that misused phrase can be further twisted to claim the President's can't be a man of faith, then you simply don't believe in freedom of religion.

It almost seems like it is okay to be a Christian (almost every U.S. president has been one) so long as it isn't practiced or believed. Bill Clinton, for instance, strongly professed his Baptist beliefs in numerous forums, but I suppose few thought he actually believed them.

I fail to see the logic that a man is somehow more trustworthy if he professes a religious faith when he doesn't believe it than is a man who professes what he belives.

I didn't see an attack on his religion, Scrat, maybe I missed it?
What upsets people is that, with so many different religious beliefs in the USA, it is frightening when the president makes his decisions for the nation based on his one religion, which this guy so blatantly does. He does not and should not have that right or privilege. This is the USA.
Not a dictatorship. Not a kingdom.
It's as simple as that.

Fox, I think it's called group mentality. When anybody believes in something, whether it's religion or politics, they have a 'natural' tendency to support their own kind. It doesn't need to be rational or logical - just that they believe in the same thing. Don't we truthfully see that happening on both side of the isle?
