Somehow, I seriously doubt that.

BOSTON (Reuters) - A Maine attorney who released information in 2000 about President George W. Bush's drunken driving conviction was arrested on Tuesday after he dressed up as al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and waved a fake gun at traffic.

Police in South Portland, Maine, arrested Thomas Connolly, 49, of Scarborough, Maine, and charged him with criminal threatening. He was released on bail, local officials said.

Lt. Todd Bernard said the police department received calls about a man wearing Middle Eastern garb and a bin Laden mask and carrying fake dynamite standing along an interstate highway. When police arrived, they saw Connolly holding a gun.

"They ordered him to drop the weapon several times and he eventually complied," Bernard said.

It turned out the gun was fake, Bernard said.

In a phone interview, Connolly said he'd been trying to protest a planned change in local tax rules.

"I didn't expect to be arrested," he said. "Obviously I touched a post-9/11 nerve."

Days before the 2000 presidential election, Connolly released information about Bush's 1976 drunken driving conviction.

The Bush campaign said Democratic "dirty tricks" were behind the disclosure that at age 30 Bush had been arrested for drunken driving in Kennebunkport, Maine, pleaded guilty, paid a fine and had his license suspended for 30 days.

Connolly, a Democrat, ran for governor in Maine in 1998.

South Portland, Maine, is located about 100 miles northeast of Boston.

Bwahahahahahaha! What a chimp. And a Democrat too!

I hope cj doesn't represent what most americans think. That's pretty sad.

When you cannot refute an article that presents sound historical reasons why Iraq was and now Iran is being threatened, you start sniveling about 'what this thread is really about'. What's the matter, chimp aka cj? Can't figure out how to check out those other sites I gave as additional sources?

The point of the article I posted, which was over the heads of those of you who claim Iran/Iraq are 'backwards', was to illustrate WHY Iran is even being threatened by the US. WHY is the key to understanding the whole issue. Get beyond mass murdering, if you can. I hope you aren't a so-called Christian. It would be interesting to see how you rationalize nuking people, but are most likely against abortion. Strange reasoning.

Believe Fox News if you want to hear BS. Being lied to is something some of you yanks tolerate with amazing passivity.

Rather than suggesting nuking (murdering) people, why don't you investigate what is really going on? Too mentally lazy?

I suggest that you and your type are the chimps. Actually, that is an insult to the simian world, which is far superior to humans. At least they don't advocate killing off their own kind.

Iran (Persia) is thousands of years old. Contrary to your stupid opinion, Iran is a modern country. Gee whiz, chimp, they have skyscrapers, paved streets, and eat with a knife and fork. They even drive cars. Compared to the US, you guys are still sucklings.

Iraq (Sumeria) history is ancient as well. They are also a modern civilization. Read up on it.

Just because they don't want to turn over their oil to YOU for your SUV doesn't make them evil.

News flash: The biggest user of nukes in the world is the US. Of course, they are so very intelligent in their use of them Rolling Eyes

BTW: Israel DOES have WMD's, but they hide behind the US, like the chimps - I mean, wimps, that they are. They have demonstrated that they are not responsible. They refuse to disclose what they are up to, but expect the surrounding countries to sit and placidly wait to be blown to bits. With the help of the US, of course.

Facts: 'responsible - haha' Israel attacked Lebanon because the Hezbollah kidnapped a couple of Israeli soldiers. Those soldiers were kidnapped because Israel had invaded Gaza which is not legal and is Palestinian land. Check it out.

Maybe you should create a thread 'nuke USA' and/or 'nuke Israel' then the rest of the world could live in peace. You're not gaining any friends lately. Yeah, I know, you don't care and you don't have to care, blah blah blah.

A heads up: The world is leaning towards the Euro which will leave the greenback good for toilet paper. I suspect if most yanks knew what was coming they would sh*t their pants.

Happy Halloween........................

Israelites are Idiots
The murderers in Israel are really responsible about their use of weapons, aren't they OCCUM BULL?

They are harrassing the Palestinians, and cannot accept the DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED GOVERNMENT OF HAMAS. ISRAEL HAS DONE EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO DISRUPT THE PALESTINIANS LIVES. AS A RESULT, PALESTINIANS KIDNAPPED [ONE] ISRAELI SOLDIER. THE RESULT WAS THE ATTACK ON LEBANON WHICH KILLED HUNDREDS AND CONTINUES TO KILL CIVILIANS: women and children included.

You think God is on the Israelis side? Cool

ISRAEL REFUSES TO RECOGNIZE HAMAS AS A STATE.

GAZA (Reuters) - Israeli troops killed at least one Palestinian on Wednesday and wounded 17 in a series of air strikes and gun battles that erupted in northern Gaza, security sources and witnesses said.

Israeli infantry troops backed by armored forces entered northern Gaza before dawn and gun battles ensued, followed by several sir strikes, witnesses said.

One air strike killed a Palestinian policeman and 17 people, including two women and about half a dozen gunmen, were wounded and a woman was in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head, security sources said.

Ambulances were unable to reach some casualties due to the intensity of the gunfire, witnesses said.

An Israeli military spokesman confirmed "there is ground action in northern Gaza now" and said there had been two air strikes targeting gunmen either approaching troops or planting a bomb.

Separately, dozens of Israeli armored vehicles massed at Israel's border with southern Gaza late on Tuesday, and a military spokesman ordered Palestinians to evacuate an area of Rafah, near the frontier with Egypt, witnesses said.

Israel has stepped up military operations in the Gaza Strip since the capture of a soldier on June 25 in a cross-border raid. More than 270 Palestinians have been killed in the offensive, about half of them civilians. [In retaliation for ONE Israeli soldier captured, not killed]

Israel, which says militants have stepped up arms smuggling into Gaza near Rafah, sends in troops periodically to try to find and destroy tunnels beneath the border and underground hideouts.

Israeli raids in northern Gaza are [mostly] aimed at preventing gunmen from firing rockets at southern Israeli towns.

Israel withdrew its army and Jewish settlers from Gaza last year after a 38-year occupation but tension has risen on the frontier since the Islamic militant Hamas movement came to power after winning Palestinian elections in January.

The increased violence came after signs of movement on efforts to arrange a prisoner exchange for the release of captive Israeli soldier Corporal Gilad Shalit, captured by Gaza militants, and two other soldiers captured by Hezbollah guerrillas in Lebanon in July.

A Hamas delegation arrived in Cairo on Tuesday for talks, amid conflicting reports about progress on a possible prisoner exchange involving Palestinians jailed in Israel and Shalit.

In Lebanon, Hezbollah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said Tuesday his group was in indirect negotiations with Israel through a U.N.-sponsored mediator over a prisoner exchange.

oralloy, couldn't Iran withdraw from the NPT legally? Would that make an Iranian nuclear weapons program legal?

Had they withdrawn from the NPT and then begun to work on nuclear weapons, that would work.

However, since they began their nuclear weapons program before withdrawing from the NPT, it is illegal, and they can't legitimize it after the fact by withdrawing.

At least, that is the position of the US government. I think it is a reasonable position.

Iran's nuclear weapons program would certainly be illegal under the terms of the npt, if they had such a program. But the Iranians deny they have any, nor have any intent to implement one.

They are lying.

Steve 41oo wrote:
Furthermore the Americans have provided no evidence that such a program does indeed exist, and you can bet your last dollar that had they any they would be shouting it from the highest mountain.

The evidence is the secrecy of their enrichment program.

A civilian program would never have had such secrecy.

Steve 41oo wrote:
All Iran is doing is producing UF4 and UF6 gas and enriching uranium in a series of centrifuge cascades which they are perfectly entitled to do under the terms of the npt for the production of nuclear fuel for power generation.

There is no right to enrich uranium in the NPT.

Steve 41oo wrote:
By contrast Israel, which was never interested in power generation, secretly developed and deployed nuclear weapons with the covert help the British and the French. Whilst they cannot be held in breach of contract for a contract they never signed, it does put Israel in that rogue-state class of countries like North Korea and the other non npt signatories.

Legally developing nuclear weapons does not make Israel a rogue state. They are in the same class as India and Pakistan.

Iran and North Korea are rogue states not for trying to develop nukes, but for trying to develop nukes after signing the NPT.

Because of the fact that our track record indicates quite clearly that we handle them responsibly, and the fact that Iran and North Korea have a track record that raises serious doubts that they would be responsible with them.

Please define "using them responsibly", and provide me with some examples of when, where and under what circumstances North Korea has used nuclear weapons on a military or civilian target that has made them a questionable bearer of said weapons.

Hamas, dimwit, is a democratically elected government.

Do you have the feeling, candidone1, that they don't know the answer? You'll have to dummy down with your questions so those of lesser intellect can understand. They are evading answering with stupid responses, as usual.

I would question not only N. Korea track record but Israel's.

Iran has attacked no one, Israel has. I'd like to see some evidence where Iran has attacked or threatened to attack North America. Or any other country. No emoticons please, just answers based on sources.
