Isn't is just so damed convenient that Cheney would spew this garbage just as the terror alert has been heightened due to an alleged foiled plot by assumed Al Qaeda operatives to commit "mass murder on an unimaginable scale."
Boy, the rhetoric is flying, especially after the closely watched loss of Lieberman in the Connecticut primaries. And now there are presumed terrorist plots to scare the living crap out of the American people, while at the same time Democrats are being compared to terrorists.
This is truly unbelievable, and it is now blatantly obvious that the Bush cabal and Republicans are so incredibly desperate that they are resorting to these dispicable tactics.
Whether the terrorist plot was real remains to be seen. But is sure makes sense to scare the crap out of the American people when times are getting worse for the GOP, and completely inconvenience them by forcing them to get rid of bottle water, shampoo, and other assorted items before they board any planes this morning. They even have to drink their own baby's formula to prove that it isn't something else.
Welcome to Bush country.
The recent Connecticut primary was an illustration of the continuing broad ferment within the Democrat party. The Michael Moore piece quoted by Lightwizard was a pretty good summary of its extreme manifestations as they relate to Iraq. The suggestion by some of the loonier posters here that statements released by VP Cheney concerning Sen. Liebrerman as well as today's security alerts for air travel are merely part of an evil conspiracy to deceive the publis illustrate how reality can be distorted by the Left Wing lunatic fringe.
All of this suggests some continuing turmoil within the Democrat Party. There is also little doubt that Republicans have lost a good deal of political potential and force due both to the normal effects of a second term presidency and also some real dissatisfaction with their policies in the Mideast and as they relate to energy supply and costs. Hoe these two factors will play out is not clear to me. It is likely the Democrats will take control of at least one of the houses of Congress this fall (and possibly both). How that may play out over the next two years as we approach the next presidential election is far less clear.
Of course, there is no right wing lunatic fringe. Yeah, right.
Lightwizard wrote:Of course, there is no right wing lunatic fringe. Yeah, right.
I didn't suggest there wasn't one. The subject here is the Democrat primary, and what they might do.
Hopefully the primaries will bring in some sensible liberal Democrats who are not so moderate they resemble Republicans in disguise nor so far left that they sound like Michael Moore but more like Bill Maher. One of the criteria is to stop dealing out libertarianism to support corporations as individual entities, or persons, instead of the weird wild beasts they actually are.
And the left wing denies, denies, denies. They will be happy ONLY when a planeload of innocent people including many Americans are killed by the Islamo-fascists--
British authorities thwart terror plot to blow up aircraft

LONDON - British police said Thursday they had arrested 21 people in connection with a terror plot against airlines traveling from Britain to the U.S. which was an "attempt to commit mass murder on an unimaginable scale."

London's Heathrow airport, the busiest airport in Europe, was closed to most European flights Thursday morning after officials raised Britain's national security alert to its highest level _ suggesting a terrorist attack may imminent. Huge crowds formed at security barriers.
Police carried out the arrests overnight in London, its suburbs and Birmingham as part of a major covert counterterrorism operation that had lasted several months, Deputy Commissioner Paul Stephenson said. The identities of those arrested were not immediately released.
Police said searches were continuing in a number of locations.
"We have been very successful in arresting those we were targeting but this is a lengthy operation, and no doubt there will be further developments," Stephenson told reporters outside the headquarters of the Metropolitan police.
"We think this was an extraordinarily serious plot and we are confident that we've prevented an attempt to commit mass murder on an unimaginable scale," he said.
He declined to how many aircraft may have been targeted, or which airports might have been involved. He also refused to say whether the suspects were British citizens or foreigners.
Prime Minister Tony Blair, vacationing in the Caribbean, had briefed President Bush on the situation overnight, Blair's office said. There was no immediate public reaction from the White House. Bush is spending a few days at his ranch near Crawford, Texas.
Britain's Home Secretary John Reid said the alleged plot was "significant" and that terrorists aimed to "bring down a number of aircraft through mid-flight explosions, causing a considerable loss of life."
The U.S. government responded to the announcement by raising its threat alert to its highest level for commercial flights from Britain to the United States amid fears the plot had not been completely crushed.
"We believe that these arrests (in London) have significantly disrupted the threat, but we cannot be sure that the threat has been entirely eliminated or the plot completely thwarted," said U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.
It is the first time the red alert level in the Homeland Security warning system has been invoked, although there have been brief periods in the past when the orange level was applied. Homeland Security defines the red alert as designating a "severe risk of terrorist attacks."
Chertoff added, however, there was no indication of current plots within the U.S. No major U.S. carriers immediately announced they were canceling flights to Heathrow.
A senior U.S. counterterrorism official said authorities believe dozens of people _ possibly as many as 50 _ were involved in the plot, which "had a footprint to al-Qaida back to it." The official spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.

The stupidity of the rightwingnuts encapsulated brilliantly!
How about this:
Fight the war on terrorism, but don't let wingnuts POLITICIZE IT!
Desparate Republicans using American's fears for political gain straight from the White House is the sickest **** I've seen in quite some time. And now that we've attacked Iraq so that we'd fight them there instead of here, terrorists are more emboldened than ever to attack us and our allies.
And the rightwingers cheer, cheer, cheer. They will be happy ONLY when a planeload of liberals, including many Americnas, are killed by Islamo-fascists.
Ann Coulter would like to kill all Muslims and convert them to Christianity. She wanted Timothy McVeigh to blow up innocent Americans in the New York times building. There's the wingnut spokesperson for ya.
Wingnuts need to look at their own for once, and then look at the bigger picture, as terrorism is a bigger threat than it's ever been since 9/11.
Do we get to hand pick who the liberals will be on this hypothetical plane?
Does the left on here really believe that if the dems controlled both houses of Congress and the WH that terrorism would stop?
Do they seriously think that everyone on the planet will hold hands and sing "kumbayah",just because they control the WH?
If they really do believe that, then they are more disturbed then I thought they were.
Of course, this is the party that said that Chris Reeves would miraculously walk as soon as Kerry was elected,so I think they believe the world will be a safe place, and all of the worlds conflicts and terrorism will instantly end once they are in power.

I certainly hope so.
I can think of a few on here that I would like to see on that plane.

Yes,thats what I meant.
I have never been able to spell that word.
I dont know why,I just have never been able to.
The previous page alone shows what a great job the current president has done as a uniter.
Stop the overblown rhetoric and consider what you just put forth as the only other option: stopping terrorism and holding hands as we sing...
How about just a sensible approach like finding and punishing those that actually attacked us rather than bombing and torturing citizens in countries not in any way involved?
Hey, there's an idea!
mysteryman wrote:Does the left on here really believe that if the dems controlled both houses of Congress and the WH that terrorism would stop?
No. The Left believes that we can combat terrorism more effectively by getting rid of the idiots who have only created MORE terrorism by invading countries that never attacked us.
Quote:Do they seriously think that everyone on the planet will hold hands and sing "kumbayah",just because they control the WH?
No. They believe that those who say such ridiculous things as you just uttered will be marginalized so that we can effectively combat terrorism and win back our allies who can aid us in that process.
Quote:If they really do believe that, then they are more disturbed then I thought they were.
They do not. But it takes a disturbed individual to come up with such wingnut conclusions.

Nobody said that Chris Reeve would walk if Kerry was elected. However, the promise of stem cell research would have gotten alot more federal funding if Kerry was elected. Thank god private research is picking up the slack.
I wonder if Bush still thinks it's murder, as Tony Snow implied. If so, then Bush should go after ever stem cell research facility, for in the eyes of delusional wingnuts, they would be considered murderers...

Well, whatever bursts your bubble, I guess...
What Squinney will never learn and Dookiestick cannot understand is that the FIRST WTC bombing and the bombing of the COLE and the bombings at the embassies( ALL TAKING PLACE DURING THE TENURE OF BILL CLINTON) and the subsequent 9/11, London, Madrid and Bali bombings were done by Islamic fascist extremists.
The attempt today in London would have taken place no matter who was in office. When there is a new president in 2009, I will be the first one to rub dookiestick and squinney's nose in it when there is a terrorist threat.
God forbid that the threat devolves into a successful plot.
Of course, the London threat today is due to the intrangisense of President Bush and Prime Minister Blair--sure!!
We are in a war and the Islamic Extremists must be defeated!!!!

Actually,John Edwards, the 2004 VP candidate for the dems,DID say that.
Here is the exact quote...
Quote:We will do stem cell research," he vowed. "We will stop juvenile diabetes, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and other debilitating diseases. America just lost a great champion for this cause in Christopher Reeve. People like Chris Reeve will get out of their wheelchairs and walk again with stem cell research."
So,here is John Edwards saying that Chris Reeves would walk if Kerry was elected.
interesting, do you have a source for that quote?
Ticomaya wrote:dyslexia wrote:interesting, do you have a source for that quote?
It's John Edwards.
F.U. I was looking for the context of the original quote, I found lots of references to the quote but not the full quote itself. Always advancing information Tico or just being Tico?

First it was the party who said it. Then it was if Kerry got elected. Now it's John Edwards who said that people LIKE Chris Reeves "will get out of their wheelchairs and walk again with stem cell research."
Like I said, nobody said Chris Reeves would walk. John Edwards said people LIKE Chris Reeves would walk. Just further proof the kind of problems some wingnuts have with time.
