Sooooo, freedom.

My general perspective on freedom has to do with thought - wiki's got a decent take on that (IMNSHO)

Quote:
Freedom of thought is also known as freedom of conscience and refers to the right of an individual to hold a particular thought, belief or viewpoint regardless of those held by others.

Freedom is, for me, mostly between the ears.

Freedom is a part of collective consciousness.

In order for people to feel free they need to be justified in doing so...

Freedom needs equal participation of the population to fully exist. It is not just a mind set but it requires action too.

How can people be free if society enslaves them?

They may still believe they are free inside but on the outside they are imprisoned.

Freedom is a pursuit not just an idea alone. If the pursuit is hindered or removed then complete freedom is no longer available either.

True freedom is both mind and spirit. Spirit is a collective consciousness and discernment process.

Snood has manners for defending MA from your insult and innuendo. You are just plain vulgar sometimes Dys.

Manners, no manners, what is better?

Dys, your college level lack of manners are befitting your brain size.

What Does Freedom Mean To You

Many fine men and women have been stationed overseas, ready to fight for this nation and sacrifice all for you and me. The troops are ready to rise when called upon to any operation , most with very little rest. Here at home ,we walk freely, enjoying the best life has to offer. So support our troops and give them your heartfelt thanks. Let them know that you are grateful for protecting your freedom, your safety and all that America stands for. What does freedom mean to you?

I find this hypocritical and sickening.
Worst of all, it is a false reality and anyone with any integrity at all knows that.

But for those who have already forgotten

Wilfred Owen

Dulce Et Decorum Est

Bent double, like old beggars under sacks,
Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge,
Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs
And towards our distant rest began to trudge.
Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots
But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind;
Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots
Of tired, outstripped Five-Nines that dropped behind.

GAS! Gas! Quick, boys!- An ecstasy of fumbling,
Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time;
But someone still was yelling out and stumbling
And flound'ring like a man in fire or lime...
Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light,
As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.

In all my dreams, before my helpless sight,
He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning.

If in some smothering dreams you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin;
If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,-
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori.

***********************************

You talk of freedom? Give the troops their Freedom - to live their lives unscarred.

We shouldn't have gone to Iraq and we shouldn't be there now. It was a mistake and our leaders should be man enough to admit it.
That our troops must continue to die to save face in the Whitehouse and Downing street is as big a war crime as that inflicted on Iraq - because those men trusted our leaders with their lives and with their reputations and our leaders fuc ked up and now many are dead or mutilated or traumatised in a crusade that should never have been. Why?

Because some still peddle the old lie.
I won't contribute to it.

Yes but did you graduate "with" the 8th grade? Smile

You all have a good night and, Edgar, we could both lighten up a bit tomorrow. I don't like getting on your case. So try and not get on others.

Bizarre. It's so absurd, it's like satire, only they don't realize it.

And the sky is a hazy shade of winter.

Actually, the real absurdity here is the fact that we do realize this is a joke to many and those many don't care about anyone else's feelings, etc.

How very kind of everyone to stop throwing darts at each other when asked to. Oh wait, that didn't happen, did it? Go figure!

Honestly, how hard would it have been for those that are speaking against the war, etc., in this thread to just leave it alone? You couldn't have just said well, it's the 4th of July and that's what they are doing for it so I'll just let them and not put my nose into it if I can't do the favor that was asked?

Five year olds? No, even five year old kids have more respect than what I've seen here.

And, I'm not going to apologize to anyone for getting angry and saying what I've said in this thread. The behavior warranted it.

Yes. You should know. You didn't care about Endymion's feelings, which he expressed so eloquently earlier in this thread. You spoke cruelly to him for expressing his feelings. You told him if he felt that way, he should leave the country.

Nobody gives a flying **** if you apologize of not. Its not as if anyone thinks you're sincere. And you richly deserve what comes your way. If you don't like it, follow your own advice to Endy, and leave. I'm sure you wouldn't tell him to do something you wouldn't do yourself.

You bet I did and I'd tell him the same thing again. Go back and see how this all started why don't you? People were posting nicely and answering a simple request and then a few had to come in and mess it up like they normally do. And then you have to jump in there with them. At least Endymon was eloquent about it and didn't have to stoop to swear words. You might take a lesson from that.

I'm just sick of it. I'm sick of people acting like this. Take some responsibility and act like human beings, will you??? These threads turn into free for alls like two gangs in a ghetto or something! You bet! I'm ticked! And hurt Endymon's feelings? Oh, that's rich, Lash. You care about that person's feelings because they agree with your views and could care less about anyone else's that don't agree with your views. Where is your compassion for the sixty some year old woman that asked that question in the first place? The woman's best friend's husband was killed in Iraq today Lash! Right now the woman that wrote that is crying with her best friend because a man lost his life just so you can spit out any danged thing you please!

I'll take anything anyone throws at me for my behavior. I don't have a problem with that at all. But I have a problem with people being rude, insensitive to others when they are doing it themselves! Yes, and right now I'm doing the same thing. So call me a hypocrite. At least I've got enough nerve to stand up to the likes of you and admit my wrongs.[/b]

Clary,

I'm not sure why you're asking if EhB needs anymore input unless I missed something. But if you would like to give some input to me on What Freedom Means to You, by all means, please do! I would welcome it. Just let me know if you want your ID to appear next to it when it's published.
