Why do you still support Bush?

I am indeed fortunate to be on a venue which has such logical and well informed debaters. I am overwhelmed by the evidence presented by Mr. Apisa.

You are such a phony...but I love ya.

Asherman, although obviously brilliant, well read and experienced.... how could such a smug and dour guy ever have been a hippie? Did you eat the brown acid or something? Be happy once in awhile for Gods sake.

As for Bernard, I can't imagine him ever being anything but what he is.

Mr. Asherman-- What are you to make of such a character? Does his chameleon like changes in character cast aspersions on the rest of the Anti-Bush crowd. I am disappointed. I thought he would attempt to bring evidence to bear. Instead he meekly slinks away with a couple of what I am sure he views as "bon mots".

Your powers of perception over a distance are quite amazing, Mr. Apisa. Have you ever thought of becoming a mentalist?

Argg! Can't you children play nice for even a few moments. Time for a time out.

I didn't realize that I'm "dour". I prefer to think that my efforts to attain the Roman virtue of gravitas has had some success. When I say something, I would like it to be taken seriously. I'm not in business to mimic Jerry Lewis, or to mouth the insipid opinions of the witless. To think, write and act after due consideration when addressing serious matters seems reasonable to me. I do take the U.S. Constitution and our nation's welfare very seriously.

Our country is not perfect, as no man is perfect. We have shameful episodes in our history, though often the shame didn't surface for a hundred years after the event. Mistakes were made, are being made daily, and will be made regardless of who occupies the Executive Mansion.

Regardless of Frank's opinion, the President probably isn't the moron that his detractors claim he is. I'm not sure, but I don't remember there being a IQ test being a Constitutional requirement. I am sure that there are many more brilliant minds in the country, but they weren't elected to fill the Office. President Carter may have been the brightest, but his administration was also one of the least effective.

President Bush isn't likely to be canonized either. Its almost impossible to make objective judgements while events are happening, especially when bombs are going off. What is regarded as a mistake may in a hundred years be regarded as a brilliant bit of Statesmanship. Either could be right, but no one will ever be certain. In the absence of certainty, it seems reasonable to me that we should moderate our opinions and leave some wriggle room to salve our pain when later opinion might be different.

Back in the Day, I truly hated LBJ and "his" useless, un-necessary war that resulted in so the loss and ruin of so many lives. We demonstrated. We argued that the American People were being used by a corrupt power-mad administration that had no regard for the Constitution. BS, but we believed it at the time. Some still believe it. I do not. With maturity and a better understanding of the historical conditions of the time, LBJ did about as well as anyone could expect. In a way LBJ was a modern Greek tragedy. A simple boy grows up and becomes a powerful force in government, always with the intent that no one should suffer from the poverty and troubles he remembered growing up in the Texas version of the Great Depression. He dedicated his life to providing real justice to all, and he was proud of his accomplishments. But. But, he was given a nasty little campaign in the larger Cold War to fight. He put the war into the hands of a Whiz-Kid from Ford and overrode his military advisors on a continual basis. Everything he hoped for, worked so hard for came in the end to be covered with the dirty ashes of Vietnam. I used to hate the man, now I can only pity his fall.

To put forth that because you changed your mind about the Viet Nam era cluster f**k that makes it the mature view is a little far off I think.

You're a really bright guy and a very interesting read but you're not the standard by which others should form or modify their opinions. IMO. Laughing

Asherman...I did'nt stop hating LBJ, I just continued on with Nixon, who as you know had the strategy for peace. That is why he won the election in '68. I still abhor him, like I abhor Bush. Liars and criminals both. Harsh words I know, but I have cared for and held the wounded and dying in my arms. They always ask for their mothers with their last breath....

There has to be a better way to use our troops. They deserve better than these presidents have given them. The marines in particular were never meant to nation build. Haditha is not the place for them. I grieve for us as Americans and as merciful human beings. Bush has much to answer for.

Robert McNamara lied to the american people and years later admitted it, his cohort was Westmoreland, today we have Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney doing the same lies with their cohort George Bush. Same old ****.

the only difference being, rumsfeld, cheney and bush will most likely never admit it, even if iron clad evidence of lies is produced, i can see them denying all to their graves

So,does that mean that "iron clad evidence" has not yet been produced?

i'm not much concerned about the lies or the evidence, i was commenting more opn what i see as the character of the people involved, from an outsiders point of view (canadian) i see the core group of folks in the administration as the type that will deny any and everything that doesn't suit their version of the truth, regardless of the facts

No, it means Rumsfeld/Cheney/Bush will never take responsibility for their actions.

This is the bitter end of the bitter sixties counter revolution and the old bitter hippies cannot understand that they and their opinions are not relevant in a post 9/11 world.

Grow up.

Get over yourselves.

You're beautiful more beautiful than me
You're honorable more honorable than me
Loyal to the Bank of America

(chorus 1)
It's a sign of the times
It's a sign of the times

(chorus 2)
You're sharpening stones, walking on coals
To improve your business acumen
Sharpening stones, walking on coals,
To improve your business acumen

Vested interest united ties, landed gentry rationalize
Look who bought the myth, by jingo, buy America

(repeat chorus 1)

(repeat chorus 2)

Enemy sighted, enemy met, I'm addressing the realpolitik
Look who bought the myth, by jingo, buy America

"Let us not assassinate this man further Senator,
You've done enough. Have you no sense of decency, sir?
At long last, have you left no sense of decency?"

We're sharpening stones, walking on coals
To improve your business acumen
Sharpening stones, walking on coals,
To improve your business acumen

Enemy sighted, enemy met, I'm addressing the realpolitik
You've seen start and you've seen quit
(I'm addressing the table of content)
I always thought of you as quick

Anyone that says "Get over yourselves" about dying soldiers in the '6o's needs some psychotherapy.
