@maxdancona,
Not to worry too much about what has been going on with the House republicans. Their approval rating is 9% and going down. They just can't see the writing on the wall that they are becoming antiquated to the American public, and will see their numbers in congress reduced.

They can keep playing this stupid game, but there is a time in this country's impatience with the idiocy that has taken over their party politics.

The majority of Americans are not stupid - especially when they see it's hurting themselves and everybody else.

Congress is supposed to negotiate and compromise. That hasn't happened in over four years.

@maxdancona,
Yes, I think it should be brought to a vote, but that isnt how it works.
Usually the house and the senate write their own bills, then it goes to committee to be worked out and a compromise is reached with the two bills.
After that, it is brought up to a vote.

Unfortunately, it hasnt been working that way for the last few years.

Yes there needs to be some sort of reform to immigration laws, and yes there needs to be some serious tightening of the border, and yes there should be some sort of opportunity for those here illegally to become legal (but it shouldnt be an easy path).

If you are hereillegally, it should not be easy for you to become legal, because you have already shown you dont care about being legal or following our rules about immigration.

My proposal would be...
1. A $5000 per person fine for every member of your family here illegally, no matter how long they have been in the US, payable within 1 year.

2. You give up any claim to any Social Security or refunds of any taxes paid while you have been here illegally.

3. ANY criminal acts, except traffic tickets, voids any chance you have to become legal, and you are immediately subject to deportation.

5. You MUST learn to read, write, and speak english because 3 years after the date the bill is passed, ALL official govt documents will be printed only in english.
You are free to speak your native language at home, in church, and in your community, but any dealings with the govt will be in english.

6. Number 1 can be avoided if you agree to serve a minimum of 10 years in the US military.

Of course, those are just my ideas, and they wouldnt pass in congress.

That's the Tea Party for you. We are going to try to fix that over the next couple of elections.

The cause of this problem is gerrymandered districts that favor conservative extremists. Although a greater number of people voted for a Democrat than a Republican in the last congressional election, the Republicans still control the House (which is a neat trick, but it means that Congress doesn't represent the true will of the electorate).

I don't think this is the way it should work, where a small number of extremists can block an important bill that most of us want.

The approval rating of the Republican controlled house is down to single digits. The Republican brand will suffer (as it should).

@Setanta,
Many things are biased. I for one am finding a surge in the acceptable biased attitude that certain members of society can freely exhibit, while other members are being brought down with fast and unconscionable pressures, destroying lives, and leaving no regret in the wake!!! I cannot take this twisted, PC one way street agenda any longer. I would like to find a group that would like to hear what I have to say, I'd like to listen to what group members are saying, and hopefully, the two are in tune, and I can get invited to come back to learn more. Thank You Fooddude1965

Why can't we ship them back home? Unless there is an oppression forcing their flight, why should we just incur the costs and burdens above and beyond what we already try to carry? It's like gay military "partners" getting spousal benefits. ... Are you freaking kidding me? We need to strengthen, solidarity for America. We are the Americans, We need to run this country according to popular vote. It is time to start over, and get it right this time!!

@fooddude1965,
Food Dude,

Are you thoughts as muddled as your posts?

The reason we cant "ship them back home" is that Americans don't want to ship them back home. There are a few reasons for this.

These immigrants (you want to ship back home) are part of our communities, our economy and in some cases our families. Shipping them back home will hurt American businesses (who would lose workers), American communities (who would lose customers, friends and neighbors, and American families (who would lose fathers and mothers).

The vast majority Americans oppose the mass deportation of neighbors, workers and family members that you are suggesting.

That's why we don't want to do it.

@maxdancona,
The graph you provided is an unfair representation of the perceptions Americans have of the democratic congress. Why congress isn't performing as it should cannot be blamed on the democrats. It's the republicans who are holding up most of the legislation that is brought to the floor; they will not compromise or negotiate, and their only response is 'NO.'

It seems most Americans who responded to that poll are clueless.

Does anyone know the percentage of American citizens who favor expulsion of all illegal aliens? This would be interesting to see.

@Advocate,
Actually, the majority of Americans (three-quarters) want to see illegals provided some form of illegals ability to earn citizenship. They want to deport only those with criminal backgrounds.

@Baldimo,
That's been established; that's the reason our government is seeking ways to enforce immigration laws, and include within it people to earn US citizenship.

What; you're not up with the news?

FYI, part of the title of this thread is called "illegal immigration."

Get it?

I believe you are too stupid to grasp simple ideas.

There's no such thing as illegal immigration in evolution theory.

There is just a swarming which overwhelms the defunct population.

@spendius,
Who's talking about "evolutionary theory?" Only you! That figures.
We're talking about the politics at play in the US concerning illegal immigration, and why our government is unable to arrive at any agreement as to how to prepare the legislation for it.

The Cruel Math of Immigration Reform in the House

Quote:
District by district across the country, there are few House Republicans who have a strong political incentive to support the Senate bill.

An analysis by The Wall Street Journal showed that only 38 of the House's 234 Republicans, or 16%, represent districts in which Latinos account for 20% or more of the population.

In addition, only 28 Republican-held districts are considered even remotely at risk of being contested by a Democratic challenger, according to the nonpartisan Cook Political Report.
