Ranting, whose ranting, making English the national language would merely change from what it is now the accepted language to the national language. That would in no way stop people from speaking the language of their native country.
I would note that even in the defeated amnesty legislation one of the prerequisites on the road to becoming a citizen is being able to speak English.
In addition IMO all documents issued by government, federal, state and local govt.'s should be printed in English only. I see no reason to cater people who come to the US and
do not want to assimilate.
