Where will the US military go home to then?

With this president in power, a lot of the US military won't be going home anyway...

If they stay there may be a home to go home to...

No.

Well, today is different from the cold war period.

During the cold war period, we might have looked the other way if an ally committed terrorism, if the ally was a good opponent of Communism.

That wouldn't happen today.

Mr Bush stated position is different from that.

That could be.

I don't pay a lot of attention to Bush's positions.

Hey McGentrix, I saw your "Never Forget- Twin Towers" slogan.

Does that mean never forget that Bushco declared a "war on terrorism" by attacking a different country than the one which originated the attackers, and disregarding the fact that you can't wage war on an abstract noun, and the fact that military action against the wishes of the UN would be bound to increase the likelihood of terrorist attack on the USA and its allies, would be bound to increase chaos in the Middle East, would be bound to decrease the international standing of the USA, and would be bound to waste a lot of American money and American lives, and a lot of innocent arab lives?

We should never forget where the neocon hubris led us.

The pictures from Abu Graib will never be forgotten. Use of Guantanamo to disregard and circumvent the law will never be forgotten.

That's a good slogan, Never Forget

Hey, whatever works for you McTag. Perhaps you can add Never Forget to wear clean knickers on the subway so when they look for your body parts, they at least find them with clean undies.

Are you talking about Iraq only, or including Afghanistan in that?

I agree that Iraq/Saddam had nothing to do with 9-11.

But Afghanistan had everything to do with it.

Maybe think of it as a war on "terrorists". Or a war against "militant Islamism" (or "militant Caliphism").

I don't think any law has been circumvented at Guantanamo. The laws against torture fully apply to Guantanamo. Any torture that occurs at Guantanamo is strictly illegal.

Simply detaining an unlawful combatant incommunicado is not a crime no matter where they are held.

"I don't think any law has been circumvented at Guantanamo"............

Then why was that location specifically selected as the place for detention?

Think about it....

We have to hold them someplace.

It is under our control, and remote enough that we can control who is nearby.

So that the prisoners would be far from their supporters. If you think a law was violated, just tell us which one.

"Pissing in the wind" and "disingenuous" come to mind, the latter applied to Brandon and his ilk.

Damn you oralloy, Lord Ellpus told you to think about it. Clearly he meant "agree with me," so how dense are you that you didn't understand his command?

It's logical: If one "thinks" about it, one will agree with the supercilious Ellpus. If one doesn't agree with his lordship, one cannot have given the matter any thought.
